Mingle - Emergency Potluck
Pumpkin Hollow Community Bulletin
WELCOME POTLUCK
Greetings, residents! Those more observant sorts among you may have noticed a large influx of very crowded ferries. In order to welcome our new residents en masse, Town Hall is holding a potluck in Town Square. Please bring a dish if you are able and make a new friend!
All of our newest arrivals need only bring themselves. We look forward to welcoming you all into our community, and may your lanterns always be lit.
This event is open to all! In light of our new influx of prospective players following the Great Sail Migration, we've decided to offer a small public event to tide everyone over until the TDM this weekend.
There Is A Dog At The Potluck
Bark Bark Bark! || [Open To All, yes, you too, you especially.]
She's so fluffy. So fluffy, you don't even know, except you do know, she's right there in front of you and giving you a knowing smile like you could tell her anything. Or perhaps she expects you to give her food.
Amaterasu could get her own food. This would be allowed, most of the people here already know...
But it's more fun this way.
This is how Amaterasu welcomes in all these new faces, and more importantly, how she's greeting you.

(Why wouldn't she, her thoughts answer themselves.)
If the staring in her direction isn't as much of a tip off, though, trying to put down her fork and keep looking at the same time fails, and it drops to the floor with a small clatter. A hiss of annoyance, as she's looking around for it now.

Ammy does a very doggy thing. She finds the fork on the ground, and, taking a moment to recall it, does the point motion. It's very eye catching, and totally at odds with her clear divinity. And helpful! Most people don't want dog slobber on their eating utensils, even if the dog in question is divine.
no subject
Slowly, she reaches over to get it, still with that awed, vaguely starstruck look in her expression that Ammy might understand as someone truly seeing her.
There's a great deal of difference from the divine you know and talk with every day and a creature that feels like this. Caution, perhaps, is required. Respect, most certainly. And if something inside her feels a little funny about the whole thing, she isn't going to say it.

Ammy pauses, and speaks. "More than happy to help. If I might help a little more.. I expect you've met other divinities, but none quite like myself?" Her voice is... serene. Knowing her true nature imparts an intensity into it, but the key aspect is, and always will be, divine canine serenity.
No one does 'perfectly calm until it is time to act' like a dog resting in the sun.

Hawkeye still has not worked out literally anything about Amaterasu's divinity and he also doesn't care because this dog is great and very fluffy, and she's getting ear scritches like crazy.
"You want something to eat?"
no subject
And she is right there with him in not caring because ear scritches ear scritches ear scritches!!
And snacks! And yes, she absolutely could get her own but they're better this way, any dog could tell you that, being given food is always more fun. Why do you think they have the puppydog eyes? Important canine technique, that.
She barks a wordless affirmation, tail thumping the ground.

"Sit?"

The goddess of the sun... Sits, grinning and patient.

"N...nice doggy?"
no subject
She is not gonna bite him. Ammy nuzzles his hand gently, projecting that serene calm even more intensely. She is a nice doggy. The nicest.
no subject
There's something animal tied up with his spirit, a deep lion-ness about him, but he's keeping it very much caged here.

"Would my lad care for a taste?"
no subject
Ammy grins. Now here's someone who gets it. "Why indeed I would!" And then she's in 'grab food from the air' pose, poised and ready.
no subject
But of course Ammy isn't a normal dog at all, is she? No, she's really quite extraordinary.

The bright pink, lanky-looking stray that's been lurking around the food sidles over to Amaterasu, tensed like she's on high alert. She takes a cautious seat once she's a couple yards away and tries to put on a studied air of oh, hey, what a coincidence, here we are, just two dogs sharin' a spot on the sidewalk. Amaterasu's friendliness is a good sign, yeah, but -- who knows. Dogs chase other dogs off their territory all the time, and River said this particular dog was a goddess. Nimona's ready to book it back to the cold cuts at the slightest growl.
no subject
This, Amaterasu is familiar with. So she sits still for a moment before taking on the play! pose and wagging her tail dramatically. New! Dog! New! Dog! So many dogs here! No one can blame her for being excited, yeah? More dogs means more chances to run and play and just be dog!
no subject
Nimona's tail starts to wag too, hopeful, as she gets up from her spot to pace closer. She cranes her neck to try and get a few good sniffs of Amaterasu in greeting. Little by little, the pace of her tail-wagging picks up.
Friend, maybe? New friend who's not a human?

Upon seeing the dog, he immediately seems to forget that he's an old man, crouching down so he's very nearly on all fours. It's the usual pose you adopt when you want a dog to see you as a fellow dog and play around with and chase you as a fellow dog.
no subject
Ammy immediately drops into play posture too, absolutely willing to play along. A little pause and then she darts away, ready to be chased!

They offer their hand for the fluffy white dog to sniff.
no subject
Sniff, sniff, a careful look at them. Not like First Aid at all, but similar.. And friendly! She licks at their hand with an excited bark!

Lieutenant Tayrey grew up at the top of a Tower. No large animals. Then she lived and worked on a starship. No animals at all. She was never going to be comfortable, but her later experiences imprisoned on the nightmare cruise ship have made her very wary of any four-legged creature.
That said, she's not getting up and leaving. She's curious enough to just stare, for a minute, telling herself that if she's living planetside for now she'll just have to get used to this sort of thing.
