In town - OTA

Sephiroth is keeping to the promise he made to Zack and is in town to get a fan. Two or more, most likely. He is in far better spirits than he has been lately and smiles and greets anyone he happens to meet.

At the shop, he examines the fan designs with a thoughtful eye. As long as they work properly, he doesn’t care much about what they look like. He examines them to see if they all have the same speed levels before finally selecting two.

After getting the fans, it’s time to get fruit juice. For that he heads to the grocery store to see what varieties are available. He can soon be found studying the case where the juices are kept.

At home - Closed to Zack

Back home, Sephiroth puts the juice in the ice box and sets up one fan in the living room. The other is for Zack’s room, and he approaches quietly, not wanting to wake Zack if he’s still asleep. Lucy and the Umbreon Zack trot along with him as he carefully opens the door to look into the room.

[Lucy happily nuzzles Zack's hand.]

Well, I work at the police station. It's the closest thing they have to a military organization.

[And that was all he knew.]

There are also plenty of other occupations.... Farming, arts and crafts, entertainers....

Yummy, Apple tends to be a fave with me. [He keeps petting Lucy, then taps her on the nose playfully and keeps talking.] That sounds like my kind of work.

[And the kind he would feel at home in. Keeping law and order, being an officer of the law. It all made sense to him.]

I lived in a farming community, not interested. I want to do soldier kinda work. you know?

I guessed right, then.

[Lucy chirps in delight.

He chuckles softly at "Not interested." That of course reminds him of Cloud.]

I would be honored to work with you again. The police chief will want to interview you, but that's all you need to get in.

You have a knack for that, Seph.

[He runs a hand down her face and wants to kiss her forehead but doesn't.] Then you'll be working with me. I just need the interview as you say. You'll have to give me a crash course, man.

[Sephiroth nods, pleased. He had always tried.

Lucy makes a cute sound like purring.]

The interview should be simple enough. Just be honest and yourself.

[Zack smiles, looking down for a moment as he stops petting Lucy. He used to have a crush on Sephiroth once upon a time, before the Nibelheim incident. He doesn't mention it now, he probably never will.] I know how to be myself. It's following new protocol I'm worried about.

[Sephiroth would be surprised. He hadn't had any idea.]

Things are fairly low-key here. There isn't nearly as much protocol to worry about as there was at Shinra.

[Zack slips out of bed suddenly and starts doing squats, his legs were starting to get achey and restless.] There's still law and order though, right?

Of course. Everyone here seems willing to stick to the law ... except the monsters and the demons.

[Said in a deadpan.]

If they followed the law, I think we'd have reason to be scared, dude.

[He keeps doing his squats, and looks at Sephiroth with his eyebrow raised.] Does this place have video games or... anything else?

[Sephiroth smirks at that.

He shakes his head.]

Unfortunately not, although apparently there's radio.

[Zack pouts, childishly even.] Ah fuck, fine. Radio it is then. Any good stations at least? [It's a good question as any, he stretches his legs out and does a quick split before getting to his feet and cracking his jaw.]

What do you do with all your spare time?

There's not much choice of stations. But there are some interesting shows, at least.

Mostly go out in the woods. Or read.

[He's not so bothered by the lack of technology, since at least there is indoor plumbing and basic electricity. He was always happiest with books over computers anyway.]

Tell me about them?

At least there's monsters to fight. I'd get bored not being able to brandish a sword.

[He's bothered, but he'll get over it. He grew up in Gongaga after all, a small little village that barely got cell service.]

((OOC: I'm not sure myself what all shows there are, so we'll probably have to handwave the telling bit, lol.))

[Sephiroth describes the shows he's heard, which may or may not be all that's available. Some music, some talk. The music ones are classical-type music.

He chuckles.]

When you're well again, perhaps we can patrol the woods together.

[Zack listens intently, surprised by the shows. Some even sound ... scandalous for this place.] We can definitely do that!

Tell me about all your friends? Who am I going to meet here shortly.

[Oh, what Zack will learn about what other scandalous things are perfectly normal here....

Sephiroth smiles.]

I look forward to it.

[He ponders the question.]

Hm. Most of the people I'm close with are the ones I work with: Valdis, who is the police chief, CT, a fellow officer, Snakes Tolliver, another officer....

[But he doesn't know if he's close enough to anyone to really think of them as friends in the same way he thought of Zack, Angeal, and Genesis.]

Good. [Zack runs a hand over his spikes and yawns. He doesn't want to sleep again but it's a close thing. He sits on the edge of the bed, having exercised enough to break out in a light sweat.] You need to branch out and try making friends outside of work, man. It's not good to only have work friends.

[He looks at Sephiroth with a smile.] Let's go out and meet people in a few days once I'm better. I bet you find out friends are just as important even when you don't work with them. You can learn so much from someone you have nothing in common with.

[Sephiroth is relieved when Zack stops exercising. He wouldn't want Zack to do too much when he's not well.

He blushes a bit.]

I do talk to other people in town. I try to welcome any newcomers I find. But I'm not as close to them, it's true.

[He looks intimidated at the thought of deliberately trying to meet people to make friends with them. But he has to smile at Zack's last comment.]

I agree, you can.

[Thinking of how different he and Zack are aside from being SOLDIERs.]

[Zack crosses his legs on the bed, leaning back against the pillows.] Are you afraid to get close to people or something? [It's a an okay question he hopes, he doesn't want to intrude on Sephiroth's mind too much.]

[Zack beams.] Kinda like us, but not really. We have things in common...I think. [he tries to think of some but fails.] Okay, we both like books at least. Though I don't have the attention span to read long books, only short stories.

[After losing his mind, pushing away his only real friend, and committing horrific atrocities? Yes, that is a fair assessment. Add to that the fact that the only other people who were his friends left him.

He looks away.]

I suppose. This place is only meant to be temporary. Someday everyone is supposed to be able to go back to their homes.

[Which isn't really his reason.

He looks amused as Zack ponders this.]

At least you enjoy some books. I've met people who don't enjoy reading at all.

[Zack realizes he hit the nail on the head, and feels guilty.] Hm... what if it's not temporary and we're all stuck here for a long time to come? Making friends is a good thing. Don't be afraid, man.

[He laughs.] I'd read longer books if my attention span could handle it, but alas, it hardly handles the short ones. Find anything good to read around here?

That is also possible. Or the Goddesses could be lying about us being able to leave at all.

[But he wants to believe they can. Probably. With Zack here now, he may not be as anxious to depart.]

I mostly read non-fiction about the history of the town and the area, hoping to find clues to breaking the curse.

That'd be great. [Zack said, voice dripping with sarcasm.] Why should a god tell the truth anyway?

I might ask why a god would lie.

[Sephiroth replied.]

The curse that's keeping everyone trapped here and not allowing them to permanently die. Apparently if anyone dies, it's only for 24 hours and then they revive again. I haven't had that experience yet.
