Mingle - Emergency Potluck
Pumpkin Hollow Community Bulletin
WELCOME POTLUCK
Greetings, residents! Those more observant sorts among you may have noticed a large influx of very crowded ferries. In order to welcome our new residents en masse, Town Hall is holding a potluck in Town Square. Please bring a dish if you are able and make a new friend!
All of our newest arrivals need only bring themselves. We look forward to welcoming you all into our community, and may your lanterns always be lit.
This event is open to all! In light of our new influx of prospective players following the Great Sail Migration, we've decided to offer a small public event to tide everyone over until the TDM this weekend.
César Salazar | Generator Rex | OTA
You can't go wrong with cheese in fried pockets of dough. Or in this case, tortillas that he had to make himself. There are two dishes labeled with their ingredients and Peneques - Mild with the smaller dish labeled Peneques - DANGER: SPICY. Hope you know what spicy is. And if you don't, you soon will.
Quiet Moment
César's looking at the gathered folks with a smile on his face, standing off to the side with his hands on his hips. He just... needs a moment to admire all this. People came together quickly for this.

Okay, exaggerating a little for comedic effect, but like. He is very happy right now.

Spicy? She'll be the judge of that. As in, Ryja smelled the spicy and damn near manifested on the spot.
-Has poor Cesar seen her since the incident?-
Her plate is full of peneques and she doesn't even try to sit down before trying one, because she didn't know there were properly spicy foods here and she's much too excited to wait.
There's a slight pause, and then she shivers and has another with the brightest possible smile on her face, ears twitching back and forth in delight. Her left leg kicks the ground without any intentional input from Ryja herself, and she starts looking for the one responsible for this plate of absolute joy.

But apparently people like spicy food. Including the woman he, ah, consumed while under the influence of a spell. He notices her at the foot thumping and tries to hide his amusement as he fills his own plate of food (he already got a couple himself), but fails miserably.
Look, she's just so happy about it. And apparently, he should've realized people were more adventurous here. He feels the same way about the spice.
So when she looks for the person who made it, she'll see the pride on his face.

She does recognize him. But she's decided she doesn't have to think about that unless she wants to and she doesn't want to. So she bounces towards him, grinning. "These are fantastic. I have not had something properly spicy in nearly two years." It was Limsa that had the best spicy foods, both from trade and its own harvests.
"Please tell me there are the ingredients to make more?" She can't decide if she wants to run around or maybe just sit down and half sprawl over an empty table, but the delight is there either way as she devours another.

"I have more, although it's going to be some time before I've got enough plants to really start doing this regularly. Starting to propagate the seeds from the one that produced these." César's glad to not discuss her death, not in public like this. "But I need spice so I don't shrivel and die. It's very important."

"You understand, then." Ryja tried to introduce her Ishgardian friends and occasional one night stands to spicy food. It did not go well. Ishgardian's view licking a salt rock as seasoning. Ishgard is weird. Cesar, buddy, you are now her friend, officially. "Alas, my skills of growing things are quite inadequate." Technically this was yet another way she was bad at being a Viera, but no one needs to know that.
"Do you think you could grow them to be hotter?" Just once, she had the pleasure of a pepper from Hingashi, so hot it was claimed to drive away malign spirits, which she has longed for ever since. This isn't quite that.

César thinks about it and sighs with a little bit of sadness. "Maybe. But there's a limit to what I can do. Maybe if I stress the plants a little, I could get them a little hotter, but it would take years to successfully breed stronger ones."

He sighs, elaborately put-upon for the trials of being a middle-class 19th century Englishman.

"Fuck you," he says to the label. "You don't scare me."
And he takes one and shoves it in his mouth. Or, well, as much of one as he can fit in his mouth in one go.
Yeah, he's gonna make these spicy tortillas his bitch.

You know who else likes peppers, César?
This girl!!!
As soon as she gets her hands on some good fatty pork she's introducing you all to spicy bacon and then it's all over for all of you. Or maybe a nice spiced rib roast...it literally makes you breathe fire for the next hour!

OH SPICY PORK. Yes, spicy bacon will be his love. He has always loved chorizo...

"Cheese with peppers," she murmurs. "By Elune, why didn't any of us think that? Now I really need to try this!"
The spicy peneque is a huge success. Ellarinne's ears stiffen up, green patches begin to glow behind her blindfold, and she hums in sheer happiness. "Delicious! Oh, I hope I can persuade you to share the recipe. In Dalaran they mostly use peppers as additional flavoring for meat. This is completely different!"
