Event Annex - The Senate Room

CRY HAVOC, AND LET SLIP THE DOGS OF WAR.
W

elcome, esteemed guests, to the Senate Room.

The rules of the game are simple. You have a word over your head that you cannot see, and the same word written on a piece of paper in an envelope that also contains a key. There is a door out of this room. Each key opens the door for only one person. You can see the words above others' heads, but you cannot say them, nor can you say any direct synonyms that might give it away too easily, nor can you spell the word or its synonyms. You must find other ways to describe it to allow the other person to guess. More abstract. Get creative with it.

If you believe you know the word, speak it aloud and open your envelope to retrieve your key. If you are correct, you can leave without incident. If you are wrong, your organs will immediately fail and you will die.

Here are the words each participant has been assigned. Players can use them to refer to other players' characters to help them guess, and you can use them to check your answers when you guess, but you can also OOCly know your answer provided you don't use it to ICly cheat. Good luck.

Simon, being bad at masking, at least doesn't say "Yeah, 'cool'" out loud.

But his face kind of does it for him. And then he tries for another hint.

"It's like-" His jaw seems glued shut again for a second, a warning, but he's not very good at listening to those. Still, he's silent for a moment, trying to think of something to say to unstick his jaw. "You're not very good at doing what you try to do."

It's a face Papyrus has seen before, and a face he's practiced interpreting as the face-maker having some self-worth issues they're working through in the presence of his greatness. He lets it pass unremarked, anyway, other than his smile getting a little more forced.

"...I'd like to think I'm pretty good at giving hints, though maybe I'm not as good at guessing them back... Something like... clueless?"

"Yeah, you're not bad at hints," he concedes, more sore about what his word is than at Papyrus. Simon wobbles his hand in the air. "Ehh," he says, to the guess of clueless.

"Okay, imagine somebody says they want to dig a deep hole," he says, trying a different strategy. "But when they start digging, they just start digging with their hands. Trying to dig a hole like that would be pretty--" His jaw zips shut again, and he lets the silence speak for him.

"Uncomfortable," Papyrus has to say, considering his own hands - gloved as they are in sleep gloves, that would still be a hard time after a while. Even with the ground here not being frozen.

He sighs. "But no, that doesn't fit... the clues so far. Not good at things... "Inefficient...? Ineffective...? U-Useless...?"

Simon's jaw is locked as firm as tetanus, so close is Papyrus to his word, and so he has to gesture.

"Inefficient" and "Ineffective" get increasingly encouraging "go on" type gestures, while "Useless" gets a jerk of both thumbs in a "go back" type of motion.

"Oh no, I'm very close?" he immediately guesses, because that closed-mouth gesturing sure looks like how he was feeling earlier. Maybe even a little painful, which adds a feeling of urgency to wanting to get his guess down.

Which does not actually make the fine detail of the guessing right, or make him feel more ineff-whatever at guessing quickly.

"This word feels ineffable," he grumbles, and tries to buckle down despite the everything. "Okay. Wait, no, those are words for actions or processes. I need a word for a person. In... Ineffectual?"
