Event Annex - The Senate Room

CRY HAVOC, AND LET SLIP THE DOGS OF WAR.
W

elcome, esteemed guests, to the Senate Room.

The rules of the game are simple. You have a word over your head that you cannot see, and the same word written on a piece of paper in an envelope that also contains a key. There is a door out of this room. Each key opens the door for only one person. You can see the words above others' heads, but you cannot say them, nor can you say any direct synonyms that might give it away too easily, nor can you spell the word or its synonyms. You must find other ways to describe it to allow the other person to guess. More abstract. Get creative with it.

If you believe you know the word, speak it aloud and open your envelope to retrieve your key. If you are correct, you can leave without incident. If you are wrong, your organs will immediately fail and you will die.

Here are the words each participant has been assigned. Players can use them to refer to other players' characters to help them guess, and you can use them to check your answers when you guess, but you can also OOCly know your answer provided you don't use it to ICly cheat. Good luck.

Gaeta weighs his options. Azimar's been on the island for several months and should've heard his share of gossip by now; however, the long stretch of quiet during the winter holidays was punctured by Nyarlathotep, not the demon court. So it's possible he truly doesn't know much about Eligos and the rest. How much to tell?

Baseline measurement first. "How much do you know about the demons running the show around here?"

"Not nearly enough, evidently." He shakes his head. "Only that they're in some way responsible for the curse on the island. And that there were once four but two of them are dead?"

"That's a start." He shrugs. "Each one is the head of their own court, not just Eligos. They have entire flocks of demon underlings at their disposal. 'Political holdings and powers' probably means they'd report to you once you inherited the job."

He ignores the flickers of the Web in the corner of his eyes.

"And metaphysical makes me think you'd gain some new abilities to match. Most likely revolving around treason. The demons can bestow gifts just like the goddesses can. Maybe you'll be able to do that, too."

"What a treat for me." He grimaces. "Do you suppose this is meant to be some safeguard against regicide? Choosing a successor nobody wants on the throne, including the successor?"

Gaeta chews his lip, thinking. Studying the threads.

"No," he says at last. "No, I don't think so. All it says is you're inheriting the title of Lord of Treason, not King of Hell. The latter will still go to Aster, and I don't think he gives a frak about whoever's in charge of Eligos's court."

"I do hope you're right about that." He looks down at the paper again, mouth twisting.

"And he's been very careful to deny me the right of refusal."
