[OPEN] And I'll dream each night of some version of you
Who: Alice Dyer (
closureisformovies), Samama "Sam" Khalid (
huntingtruths) & you!
What: Alice and Sam arrive back from their canon update
When: Early May
Where: Around, locations in prompts
Warnings: Reference to gun violence; typical horror protagonist things; specifics in headers. Magnus Protocol Spoilers up to Episode 40.
Notes: Open prompts for both Alice and Sam will be down in the comments! Body of the post is meta/closed to Sam.
It's just her luck, really. Goes to talk to some spooky external— thing and don't even die because it's dangerous, oh no, that'd be too logical. She was prepared for that risk. Getting accidentally shot by her overeager bodyguard she didn't ask for? That's the level of absurdity that her life is made of, these days, so of course that's what happened instead.
(Gwen Bouchard, when she fucking sees you again...)
The memories hit when Mortanne welcomes her back and with it, the fact that Sam was here, too, the first time, so if she's here again, then surely— maybe— she almost doesn't dare to ask but she does and Mortanne says yes, and, well, after that it's all she can do not to cry with relief.
She's alone on the ferry, except for ferryman. It's the most nervewracking few minutes of travel of her life and she spends it shifting from foot to foot, scratching at her arm, pulling at her hair—nervous, scared, anxious, excited, she doesn't know. She just knows that Mortanne wouldn't lie. So she pays her fare, steps off the boat, and then stands on the dock to wait.
She's not going anywhere until he turns up. She doesn't care how long it takes.

"Y'know I should be more annoyed by that but at this point I'm not even surprised." Though Jon's probably going to get an earful about it, anyway. Sure it's probably unreasonable to expect a guy you met once to stick to a promise to not encourage your ex's dangerous investigative habits, but still.
She is still the moving bus.
"There'll definitely have been something," because yeah, there always is, "but at least we can be glad we missed whatever the hell it was."
Not that they dodged dealing with bullshit entirely, but take your wins where you can get them.

He sort of waves it off though and instead just sighs thinking about all the stuff that's happened around here. "Probably. At least we got to miss it....this time."
no subject
"Yeah, so, full disclosure, I did try to make him promise not to talk to you about Magnus stuff the second I realised the voice wasn't a total coincidence." Which really doesn't help with that old controlling problem, she knows, but she didn't think it'd come up again that easy and they had it out about that after the demon thing anyway, so isn't it sort of old news? "IIIIIIII will not do that again. Any of that. Any of— that stuff. Yeah."
no subject
"Alice?" Sam sighs, looking at her. "I know you're just looking out for me, and I mean...I didn't listen and look at where it got me. Thanks for worrying about me like that."
no subject
Wow, this really has done a number on both of them, hasn't it? Listen to them. Total reversal of how this conversation feels like it would've gone, before.
She considers joking about that. Fails to find the right words.
"...we need to have each other's backs like that. We're the only ones left from the office that aren't fucking snakes." Celia, Gwen, they can't trust them to help with any of this. From home, their own universe, they're the only ones they can trust.

Who knows what would happen if they suddenly were taken back again. And here he thought this place was for when you die...weird. He never thought he'd hope that this was a real death.
But then it was all so fuzzy he wasn't sure what had happened in the first place.
"We should get back to our places, get our keys, that stuff." It was getting kinda dark.
no subject
"You and me both," she grumbles, already imagining many things she suddenly wants to say to Celia and a few she wants to say to Gwen, besides. But that'll have to wait. For if they ever even make it back.
For now they're here. And they're just going to have to deal with whatever comes.
"Yeah. Yeah. Right. That's a thing we should do." She drags her hands down her face and groans, finally pushing herself up to her feet and offering Sam a hand up.

He pauses for a moment before reaching out and pulling Alice into a hug. "I need you to know....I'm glad I have you here with me...even if we keep avoiding each other."
no subject
Alice snorts, returning the hug with a squeeze. "...hopefully we manage to do that a little less, this time, but— yeah. Yeah. Me too."
Ignore her heart going.
no subject
"We'll figure it out. I'll talk to you later, yeah?"
no subject
"Yeah." An exhale. "Later."
Time to figure out how to readjust.
