Branching Out

A cool breeze threads through the trees of Lockwood Forest as Teddy Pennyburrow and his gaggle of volunteers begin to set up the camp.

It's been a monumental occasion, receiving enough funding to the Autumn Leaves Dormitory House to give it some much-needed upgrades and expansions, but the process hasn't been without its trouble. Finding somewhere to keep the children while the construction is under way took a great deal of thought and deliberation--- after all, the Oak & Iron doesn't exactly have the space to accommodate so many displaced kids, from toddlers to teenagers--- but with some assistance from those working so closely with the House, a seasonally-appropriate consensus was reached.

What better way to pass the time and make it fun for everyone involved than to have it be a camping excursion?

Summer Camp Season

In a wide clearing within the centermost area of the woods, Mr. Pennyburrow has gathered as many volunteers as he could possibly manage to keep the children active, engaged, and most importantly, safe. Among the roles called for in his volunteer-seeking notice on the public bulletin board, Pennyburrow called help for:

Teachers, to educate the children on survivalism and nature, as well as any other subjects that might be easily taught to a gaggle of children in the woods. Math might prove to be challenging, here. (Anyone aspiring to teach full-time at the Dormitory House are encouraged to join them, as with the expansions and additional funding, Pennyburrow will be looking to hire a few offworld teachers to create curriculums!)

Storytellers, especially anyone with a knack for tales of mystery and terror. (Campfire for ominous lighting while telling the stories will, of course, be provided. The teenagers would be willing to settle for no less.)

Foragers and cooks, especially with skill in campfire-cooking.

Warriors and guards, for assistance with keeping the campsite safe from any threats that lie in the forest.

➤

General attendants, particularly anyone with a keen eye (and potentially with the ability to guide rowdy groups into games to pass the time).

Though the position is voluntary, Pennyburrow still offers a humble 100B to anyone who comes to assist. (Mod note: if your character attends the event, feel free to go ahead and add 100B to their ledger!)

Oh, yeah, absolutely.

"Dude, it would be so cool to be a frog for a day."

That catches her offguard.

"... I mean, it wouldn't be for a day. Just about an hour. I can't say that... anyone has ever said being turned into a frog would be cool."

That time she mentioned turning naughty kids into frogs, she wasn't totally serious, she swears!

Sorry, Sorceress, non-binary people love frogs. That's just nature.

"It'd be so cool. Frogs don't have problems. They just vibe in the mud. Eat a bug sometimes. Make a cool sound."

"I... ah... suppose then... if there's a time you wish to experience it, I can cast transformation on you."

What a weird kid. Endearing. But weird.

Kris is not a particularly expressive child. But when she says this, a spark of excitement can be seen in their eye, and they do a strange, bow-legged pose.

"LET'S GO FROG ME UP."

Uh.

Is Pennyburrow going to be alright with this...? Her spell only lasts an hour so... it's not like they'll be trapped like that forever.

Sorceress looks over to the fox gentleman in the distance then back to the teenager, unsure of what to do.

"Are you certain?"

"I've waited my WHOLE LIFE to become ONE with the POWER OF FROG."

What are they even talking about.

Goddesses, this is the weirdest thing she's ever done. Not the worst though since... Kris wants to be a frog?

The redhead shakes her head, picks up her staff, and takes a deep breath.

"Very well. Hold still."

The staff begins to glow with blue colored magic and in a few moments, a smoke flows out of it, snaking its way to Kris. It's a painful transformation, thankfully. Sort of just a smoke and poof type of thing because as soon as the magic vanishes, the teenager is now a bright green frog.

Sorceress kneels down in front of them and reaches out a hand once the spell is done.

"Feeling alright?"

Sure, Kris can't speak but there's other ways of telling if they're distressed or not.

Kris, freshly froggified, is utterly overjoyed. Not that they would have shown that much anyway. They hop into her hand, croak placidly, and blink one eye at a time.

I'm a natural at this.

Well, they seem fine so... she'll just set them on to her shoulder for the time being. They can hop off or leave anytime they want.

But in the meantime... "Be careful when you're like this, alright? Frogs are far more delicate than humanoids. I'd rather you not get hurt."
