JULY MINI EVENT - Branching Out!

Branching Out
A cool breeze threads through the trees of Lockwood Forest as Teddy Pennyburrow and his gaggle of volunteers begin to set up the camp.

It's been a monumental occasion, receiving enough funding to the Autumn Leaves Dormitory House to give it some much-needed upgrades and expansions, but the process hasn't been without its trouble. Finding somewhere to keep the children while the construction is under way took a great deal of thought and deliberation--- after all, the Oak & Iron doesn't exactly have the space to accommodate so many displaced kids, from toddlers to teenagers--- but with some assistance from those working so closely with the House, a seasonally-appropriate consensus was reached.

What better way to pass the time and make it fun for everyone involved than to have it be a camping excursion?
Summer Camp Season
In a wide clearing within the centermost area of the woods, Mr. Pennyburrow has gathered as many volunteers as he could possibly manage to keep the children active, engaged, and most importantly, safe. Among the roles called for in his volunteer-seeking notice on the public bulletin board, Pennyburrow called help for:
Teachers, to educate the children on survivalism and nature, as well as any other subjects that might be easily taught to a gaggle of children in the woods. Math might prove to be challenging, here. (Anyone aspiring to teach full-time at the Dormitory House are encouraged to join them, as with the expansions and additional funding, Pennyburrow will be looking to hire a few offworld teachers to create curriculums!)
Storytellers, especially anyone with a knack for tales of mystery and terror. (Campfire for ominous lighting while telling the stories will, of course, be provided. The teenagers would be willing to settle for no less.)
Foragers and cooks, especially with skill in campfire-cooking.
Warriors and guards, for assistance with keeping the campsite safe from any threats that lie in the forest.
General attendants, particularly anyone with a keen eye (and potentially with the ability to guide rowdy groups into games to pass the time).
Though the position is voluntary, Pennyburrow still offers a humble 100B to anyone who comes to assist. (Mod note: if your character attends the event, feel free to go ahead and add 100B to their ledger!)

There's a moment's pause when he speaks, then recognition. "Oh hey it's you. You look cunty today." They don't ask for an explanation, simply hurrying back into the woods and pointing at a large patch of dense, fluffy moss on a tree. There are even a few flowers peeking out of it!

"It's freakin' huge."
aghostinthemachine: (★ big big big big big big big)

You look cunty today.

Mettaton is about to extend a noodly arm to cover Kris's mouth with his gloved hand but the child begins walking away and all the glambot can do is gasp and sputter, hands on his hips in a huffy manner.

"Really! Kids these days..."
aghostinthemachine: (★ My car is getting bigger)

This is all excused, of course, at the sight of the awesome moss. Mettaton crouches down and inspects the patch.

"Oh, it is big. Looks quite cozy for a snail or two, if you ask me. What a wonderful find!"

A pity he couldn't show Blooky. Their snails might be happy to visit such a lovely spot.

"You're a fan of nature and the like then?"

"You've never heard the word 'cunty?' Man, you must be older than you look. It's like--- fierce, in a hot girl kinda way. Or a gay way. Depends." Kris shrugs, stooping next to the moss.

While Mettaton takes in the sights, getting sentimental, Kris becomes focused on picking up a stray lump of green fluff and stuffing it into their mouth. Tastes mossy!

"Whah?" Don't talk with your mouth full, Kris.
aghostinthemachine: (★ is one big adventure)

[personal profile] aghostinthemachine 2025-07-26 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Kris is taking no prisoners today. Mettaton places a hand on his chest and gasps at being called old. The audacity! (Nevermind that he probably is.) But at the rest of the explanation, the glambot seems to relax a bit.

"I... see. Thank you for the... compliment then."

Cunty, huh? Why does it sound more like an insult? Whatever. If that's what the kids are saying these days—

.......

"KRIS DARLING WHY ARE YOU EATING THE MOSS?! Get that out of your mouth this instant!"

[personal profile] heartofadreemurr 2025-07-26 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Why???" They keep chewing.
aghostinthemachine: (✰ It could make me feel so real)

[personal profile] aghostinthemachine 2025-07-26 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Because moss isn't for humans to eat!"

At least to his knowledge.

"Besides, you could be eating someone's home."

[personal profile] heartofadreemurr 2025-07-26 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Kris considers this for a moment, then spits it out unceremoniously with a pleh.

"Okay fine, I'll stick to dungeon moss from now on I guess."
aghostinthemachine: (★ Tell them how my life)

[personal profile] aghostinthemachine 2025-07-26 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Mettaton tuts and tries to nudge the slobbered and chewed piece of moss back to the spot it was previously at. Ew.

... Wait a minute.

"Dungeon moss?"
heartofadreemurr: (pic#17977283)

[personal profile] heartofadreemurr 2025-07-26 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, from dungeons. You know."

They just stare at him. It is impossible to tell if they are joking.
aghostinthemachine: (★ I've got to make it show yeah)

[personal profile] aghostinthemachine 2025-07-26 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
If it is, it goes over Mettaton's head.

"Yes, I gathered that part. Don't tell me you just... wander around a dungeon like it's nothing!"
heartofadreemurr: (pic#17976477)

[personal profile] heartofadreemurr 2025-07-26 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Sometimes dungeons happen. When they do, there's always dungeon moss."

A beat, then a subject change.

"So you like nature stuff, huh? Little animals and bugs and stuff."
aghostinthemachine: (★ to my bed)

[personal profile] aghostinthemachine 2025-07-26 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
That doesn't answer his question but whatever. Kris is a weird kid.

"Some nature stuff. My cousin runs a Snail Farm."

... No elaboration.
heartofadreemurr: (pic#17977145)

[personal profile] heartofadreemurr 2025-07-28 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
None needed!

"Sounds dope. Snails are cool. Are they cute?"
aghostinthemachine: (✬ Call me (call me) on the line)

[personal profile] aghostinthemachine 2025-07-28 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
... You might be a weird kid, Kris, but you just earned a bunch of points in Mettaton's book.

"The cutest snails! They're the fastest in all of the Underground~"
heartofadreemurr: (*You liked that.)

[personal profile] heartofadreemurr 2025-08-03 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Nice." Kris nods their approval. "Okay, so, which one has the best name? They have names right?"
aghostinthemachine: (✰ Your attention and time)

[personal profile] aghostinthemachine 2025-08-03 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
He holds up a finger to say something and takes an unnecessary breathe as if about to speak.

The finger lowers and Mettaton closes his mouth.

... He raises it again! And gives a big grin, as if proud of himself.

"I don't know because they never told me their names!"
heartofadreemurr: (*what the fuck)

[personal profile] heartofadreemurr 2025-08-03 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"The snails or your cousin?" Can Mettaton speak snail?
aghostinthemachine: colored by <user name=knuxiechan> (★ is a small town)

[personal profile] aghostinthemachine 2025-08-04 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Who knows.

"The snails, silly. The racing snails just go by their colors, or at least that's what they've always done when I've seen them in action."
