[OPEN, Mingle] Yamsgiving

Who: Cecil and EVERYONE
What: Another Harvest Celebration
When: Beginning of Pumpkinfest
Where: Center of town
Warning(s): Discussion of the Gala and its attendant CWs may come up

1. Yes, we're happy as fish [Food Prep, Oak and Iron kitchen]
Cecil's made a point of seeking out the best known chefs in town to help him put everything together for this meal. While sweet potato dishes are the star, at least one available with every course, he's hoping to hit a broad variety so everyone can find something they like. He, of course, is peeling and chopping his eternal sweet potato to make sure there's enough to go around.

(Of course you don't need to worry about him with a knife! He's fine! Don't you know he was once a boy scout?)

If someone needs an extra hand for their dishes, though, he's happy to lend one. There's an attitude of camaraderie and cheer in the room, with Cecil even breaking out singing at one or two points in the evening.

2. And gorgeous as geese [The Meal; Festival Green]
Everyone's invited to the feast. That is, in fact, the whole point. Cecil's always been pointedly neutral in the town's tensions, working as the most unbiased media monkey he can. He's the Voice of Pumpkin Hollow, and that means not taking sides between Dahlia and Neil and the Temple and whoever else. But after the gala, he's made a choice to act, to try to foster goodwill and warm feelings. This isn't the stone stew he offered during January's famine, this is a Redwall-style feast.

So, between glasses of mead from Kasprak Farm and dandelion wine, everyone is invited to fill their plate with candied yams and zucchini bread, roast chicken and venison donated by one of the Enforcers. There's a homemade cranberry sauce with citrus wedges and dandelion-leaf salad with an apple cider vinaigrette and toasted acorns for garnish. There's pasta with a homemade pesto sauce and cheese. Desserts, too, are plentiful, some even flavored with...chocolate. But many are not, and feature sweet potatoes. Muffins, pies, etc.

Find a table with a friend or a stranger, and indulge. This is a warm-fuzzy type thing--feel free to use it as a mingle.

3. And wonderfully clean in the morning [Cleanup; Also Festival Green]
Cecil is, quite honestly, expecting to be the only person to stay and clean up. He's been up since about five in the morning and he's dragging a bit at this point. Oh, he did take the time to eat, so he's not starving, but like. He could use help putting the Green back to rights.

4. We've got everything, we're growing everything [Cecil Wildcards]
[You know how to find me to plot.]

"Only option?" That's a completely foreign concept to Misa. "Surely the Grandmaster of the Order has some say, and you wouldn't be the first Padawan to ask for a new Master. Sometimes, people just don't 'click' and even after time, they cannot be left together." She's seen it before. In fact, her friend Geva had two Masters before she found the one to tame her a bit.

"Well, I'm sure between the two of us, we can come up with some sort of training regimen." She has her own thoughts.

But there is something niggling at her. "You called the REpublic 'old'. Why?"

Rey hoped she didn't look as nervous as she felt. "I, uh...I think we're from different years. In mine, there's only one option." Of course Leia had the Force as well, but as far as Rey knew she'd never finished training as a Jedi. She thought the other woman would have mentioned it if it were an option. "And we didn't click. He'd been disappointed a lot, I think. Disappointment hurts." Just like she'd been disappointed every day on Jakku that her parents hadn't returned for her.

But this made her grin. "I'd really, really like that. So much, I can't--well. Thank you."

"It's the time thing. For me, it's 34 ABY. What's it for you?"

Only one option? That makes no sense at all. It means... it means they failed and the Sith won. But she doesn't break down weeping. Instead, her confusion just grows. "ABY?" She asks, confused. "It's been only a cycle since the Treaty of Coruscant."

She doesn't like what she's hearing, but only allows confusion to show. Something is very, very wrong here. Still, this is a fellow Force Sensitive and she will help as much as she's able.

"The...Treaty of Coruscant?" Rey tried to not look as lost as she felt. "I'm, um. Where I grew up, they didn't have--have schools or anything. I don't know what that is."

"And ABY stands for after the battle of Yavin IV. It's when the Rebels got their first huge victory, blowing up the Death Star." Blown up by young Luke Skywalker, just barely becoming attuned to the Force. Time hadn't been kind to him.

Rey was confused. Was anyone else from their galaxy? Was she from the latest point in it? Surely not, there had to be others. Right?

"The Treaty forced on the Jedi by the Sith during the Jedi/Sith war?" How can this woman not know that?

"What Rebels and what's a Death Star?" Misa asks, walking with the other woman. It seems they have a lot to talk about. Some of this doesn't make any sense. What does make sense is that they are two Force Sensitives in a place where the Force feels different, where it doesn't feel like on Tython.

"Come, I have a feeling we have a lot to talk about." Misa sighs. She doesn't like this at all.

Rey had no idea what to say to that. It sounded bad, that there were enough Jedi and enough Sith that there was an actual war between them. Things were bad enough with the First Order. 'Oh' seemed like a really ignorant thing to say, so she held off saying anything.

"It, uh. Stuff that people a few dozen years had to deal with. It's over now." Which was technically true, even if it was missing details. Again, she couldn't help wondering what Finn and General Organa would do when they found out about her deal with Kylo Ren. Not Ben, not anymore, not after he chose power and had to have her, too.

"Yeah. Sure seems that way," Rey said with her best attempt at a casual smile.

Wait until Misa hears about her deal with Kylo and who Kylo is. There will be scolding, and a teaching.

"I have a feeling we are from the same galaxy, but time appears to be different." She says. "Were you in my time, no doubt some Master would have brought you to the Order to be tested, and then another would have taken you on as an apprentice." Padawan was usually reserved for the younger students.

She helped keep the plates steady. "I don't suppose you have a saber do you?" Misa asked hopefully. Her robes were bereft without hers.

To be fair, she hadn't gotten the no attachments lecture yet. She hadn't gotten much of anything in the way of real instruction other than how to feel the Force and the way it wove itself through everything, both good and bad.

"I think so, too," Rey said, eyes wide. "Really? They'd find me even if I was on Jakku? I...it would've been hard to convince me to leave. I had reasons for wanting to stay there." Reasons like waiting for her parents, her dead parents buried in a pauper's grave. The thought of it gave her a pang of grief.

"Uh. No. I was using someone else's anyway, they probably figured since it wasn't technically mine, I shouldn't get to keep it. Why, d'you have yours," she asked hopefully.
