Gerry's easy smile tightens at that a bit. "Well, you know. She's her own person. You can do all the raising in the world and she's still gonna have her own brain and her own opinions about what's right, what matters. Besides, people get hurt even when trained professionals handle these problems."

The last comment is pointed. Undeniable. Gerry might not have been around in 2020 when protests about police brutality were hitting a peak, but that certainly wasn't when the problems began.
