Dear Fellow Traveler, Under The Moon [OTA]
Who: Dedue Molinaro
What: Catchall
When: Late August and Early September
Where: Town Square and Shops
Warning(s): Talk of past experiences of genocide and war will likely come up, also there is one closed nsfw thread
1. And I’ll Return To My Beautiful City (OTA)
Claude’s multicultural feast meant a lot to Dedue, and when the night ended, his heart ached. He wanted more time spent sharing food and cultures, and he could see how important those connections were, not just for him but for others. How many of Pumpkin Hollow’s residents are the only representative of their culture? Dedue knows very well how such isolation can sting.
Up until now, Dedue has felt adrift and aimless. But now the wheels in his head start turning, and he knows what he has to do.
He starts by spreading awareness. Dedue sets up a table in town square with a sign asking passersby to tell a story about their favorite food. When someone stops by, he will explain (albeit in a stilted scripted manner while not making eye contact) that he is gaging interest in a cultural center that is devoted to accurate preservation and sharing of the diverse cultures represented in Pumpkin Hollow.
2. Black Skies Fade Into Blue (Open to Artisans and Entrepreneurs)
The problem with Dedue’s new goal is that it requires funds, and Dedue has hardly anything at the moment. However, he possesses versatile skills that make him easily adaptable to several trades. Unfortunately, networking is NOT one of these skills.
Regardless, he forces himself to put himself out there. He enters several shops and looks around for several minutes while working up the nerve to stiffly mumble a question about job openings in a barely audible baritone.
In particular, he can be seen at:
a. Infernal Arms & Armor: The smell of the blacksmith shop brings back a strong pang of nostalgia for his father’s shop back in the capital. In another life, this would have been the legacy handed down to Dedue and his sister. Dedue thinks perhaps it would be fitting for him to end up back here. He examines the practicality of the armor and tests the weight of some of the weapons in his hands. He is drawn in particular to axes and gauntlets.
b. Whitlock Needleworks: Dedue’s embroidery projects from the Serena all disappeared when he came to Pumpkin Hollow. He definitely wants to see what he can spend his own brass on, even if no work comes of this place. He puts different colored threads together to experiment with pallets. Jewel tones - turquoise, emeralds, burgundy, purples, gold and silver. He mumbles comments to himself about which plants might look best with which color.
c. Mipha’s Grace Seafood Stall: Dedue steps by the stall and examines the different wildlife available - comparing it to the fish he remembers from Duscur and Fodlan. There are certainly some he has never seen before, and he wonders how best to prepare them. He takes out a small notebook where he jots down cooking ideas.
d. Wherever You Work: Dedue’s not picky. Being the primary retainer to a prince with chronic mental illness and physical disabilities means Dedue has done all kinds of work and is willing to do whatever is open. Feel free to chat him up.
3. And Though My Love Is So Wise And So Pretty (NSFW, Closed to Dimitri)
Dedue doesn’t really have any experience with massages. He has typically denied his own self-care with excuses about being too busy with work. However, Dimitri has been talking eagerly about the massages he saw offered at Magne’s new business, and - well - Dedue might as well try something new. He stops Dimitri mid-sentence to ask, “You seem interested in this. Did you wish to give or receive…?” Then clarifies awkwardly, “A massage, I mean.”
4. Some Nights I’ll Still Dream Of You (Open to Former Serena Passengers, and Wildcard
To anyone Dedue recognizes from the Serena Eterna, he will give a quiet nod of recognition and allow them to choose whether or not to approach him. He still hasn’t reconnected with many of the people he knew.
To anyone Dedue has not yet met, he will allow them to approach him but may come off as quiet and guarded. For those associated with TMA/TMP lore, Dedue has a strong scent of Lonely and Slaughter to him.

And Though My Love Is So Wise And So Pretty
"Well. Ah. I thought ... it might be ... something nice that I could do for you. Since it's your birthday." Dimitri leans into Dedue, pressing his cheek to Dedue's shoulder. "And you are very tense."

Not that Dimitri's much better. He buries his face in Dedue's shoulder as his face heats again. "And if you wanted, I thought ... we could ... have sex."
no subject
At the next suggestion, his face also heats up, and he just nods in agreement. “Yes. We, um... we could do that.”
He shifts in his seat. “Should I lay down?” He’s pretty sure people lie down when they’re getting a massage.
no subject
Wait.
His mind catches up with his mouth. " ... you want to?"

Okay! They're doing this! And Dimitri didn't even die!
He's still desperately glad that everyone else in the house works in town, because if anyone caught him pouring vegetable oil into a jar for unspecified reasons, it would kill him. Even knowing the house is empty, he darts back upstairs as soon as possible, steadying the jar against his chest so he won't crush it. He taps his knuckles on the bedroom door before easing it open, and shuts it carefully behind him.

"I didn't want to run out," he protests. He sets the jar on the bedside table, then sits next to Dedue and leans down to kiss him.

Eventually they have to part for air, another of life's little cruelties. Dimitri sighs, and brushes back a strand of hair that had escaped Dedue's hair tie. Quietly, just for the space between them, he murmurs, "Did you still want that massage?"

His crooked fingers stand out glaringly stark against Dedue's shoulders, every scar and healed break an accusation -- how can he offer this? How dare he imagine his hands could bring anyone pleasure? All they know is violence, and that's all they'll ever be good for.
He hesitates, frozen in the sudden clutch of guilt.

Now. How should he start ... he smoothes his hands over Dedue's shoulderblades, then presses his fingers into a spot that feels tight. "Does that feel good?"

"A cultural center? As in a museum to cultures that still exist?"
no subject
“I wish to catalogue information so that we can learn more from each other. I am also interested in accurate preparation of cuisine and artistic expression.”
no subject
"Cuisine as a form of art hadn't really occurred to me before." Mostly because one of the people he travels with has eaten an entire deer with his hands before.

“For me, I have been the only one of my culture for much of my life. I know what it is like to be isolated. I wish to make a space where people can feel at home and can better understand one another.”
no subject
He trails off thinking about it. Maybe eventually no one will compare him to a squid, maybe this is a great idea.
"Why were you the only one of your culture for your whole life?"

"Empanadas." César answers the question before it's even asked, putting down a plate that has some made with corn and flour based doughs, four each. "The earliest known recipe is 500 years old, when it used to be a larger pie."
Yes, he's forgotten to introduce himself. More important things to discuss, here!

“Ah,” Dedue says, looking a little flustered. “Were you taking these somewhere?” He feels like it would be presumptuous to assume any of them are for him, so he has to ask.
“The look and smell is very good,” he adds. He’s had pastries that somewhat resemble the appearance, and he knows that meat-stuffed-into-bread is common in some form in most cultures, but this looks very different from the food he knows. He would be lying if he said he wasn’t curious about it.

He graciously takes his half of the empanadas and tries a bite of each type. He doesn’t say anything, but his eyes light up with a bite of the flour and even moreso with the corn.
“I know this one is made with flour, but what grain is the other? The texture is unique to me.”
no subject
César pulls an ear of corn out of his bag and hands it over. "Corn's not common everywhere. I figure some folks haven't encountered it much or at all."
