1. I will not cease from mental fight [Temple Matters]
With Degas on his sabbatical, Angel is taking on the full mantle of Priest of the Mothers. He’s wearing the brown robes of a priest and the green stole with braided knotwork patterns similar to Celtic designs along it, even though doing so makes him feel a little like a child in their father’s shoes.

Still, he’s here if you need guidance or blessing, trying to fill the role.


2. Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand [Milk and Honey]
As he’s trying to fill the role of full-time priest, Angel’s still in his robes as he brings products from Kasprak farm into town. Vegetables and fruits, eggs and goat’s milk. And, of course, honey, in small glass jars all with a wax stamp on top–a bee with a pair of stylized feathered wings.

He’s visiting stores and restaurants, but if you catch him on the carriage Arcadia’s pulling, you might get tossed a ripe tomato or offered a melon. There’s plenty to go around.


3. Till we have built Jerusalem [A Day Off]
Sometimes, it’s all a bit much. Angel occasionally runs away from his duties. Never on days when there are services planned, never when he’s scheduled for something. But when restlessness strikes, Angel’s feet take him to the wild parts of the island. Paradesium, Lockwood Forest near Elsie’s Tree, and even nosing around the cave near Tawny Beach, though it’s been caved in since he and River had their adventure. He isn’t wearing his robes, he hasn’t combed his hair, he might be up a tree or sitting on a rock, and he surely isn’t expecting company.

But still, if you approach, there’s a sheepish little nod and a wave.

Milk and Honey - time for a talk

Erik spots Angel in town carrying those jars of honey and something clicks into place for him at last.

"Angel, do you have time to come talk with me? I want to ask you about something."

[graveling]

The look in Angel's eyes--it doesn't read through on his face, but it's very there in his eyes--is am I in trouble? He nods, though. "I can talk, though I need to get these eggs to Venka, before I can. Walk with me?"

"That's fine." He takes up Angel's pace, walking side by side.

"You aren't in trouble, Angel. But, I do think it's time we spoke about Max. He told me recently that he was gifted a jar of honey with no indication of who sent it. He thought it might have been me. It was you, wasn't it?"

[graveling]

"He bakes. I thought he might appreciate some honey." It's a sheepish little admission. "Did I fuck up with him again?"

"He was very appreciative of the gift, but he did express regret to me that he did not know who to thank for it. I wouldn't call that a fuck up, but I do wonder why you didn't tell him it was from you?"

[graveling]

"Because I didn't know what I wanted to say to him? Or that he'd really want to hear from me." Angel scrunches up his face in a thoughtful little scowl. "I feel like he's the complete and total opposite from me."

"I think Max would like to hear from you. I won't speak for him, but I do know him well enough that I can say that with confidence." He also thinks Max might be horrified to know anyone was afraid to talk to him.

"I'm not sure what having differing personalities has to do with it, but may I ask? Do you want to get to know him better?"

[graveling]

“Well…yeah. Of course I do. He seems good. Like…so alive and warm and just really nice.”

And Angel knows that’s not something Erik is unaware of. It’s the contrast he’s trying to underline.

"Are you envious of that in him? I certainly am."

[graveling]

"It'd be kinda hard not to be envious of him. Of course I am. Are you going to tell him I said all this?"

[lordoftheozarks]

"No, Angel. This is between you and me. I'd like to see the two of you getting along but I'm not going to directly interfere." He doesn't want to make it seem as if he's pressuring Max in any one direction.

"I want to go back to what you said before. What did you mean when you said you don't know what you want to say to him? Are you still upset with what he did and said at the potluck?"

[graveling]

“No, I’m not upset.” He shakes his head immediately. “Wouldn’t have given him the honey if I was. But. I mean it like I said it. I don’t know how to, like. Try to make friends with him.”

"I think you will find it's easier than you think." The human could become best friends with a Roomba.

"My suggestion is to bring him another jar, in person this time, and ask him if he knows any good recipes to use it on. That will work. I promise you."

[graveling]

"...that...sounds pretty simple, Erik." Angel is pressing X to doubt here.

"Yes, I know." He chuckles to himself.

"Here is a secret for you: some things really are that simple. Trust me on this."

[graveling]

Angel makes a soft 'murrp' sound of muffled complaint.

"I might also tell Max about what Venka's working on. She's opening a new business, apparently. Ice cream parlor. I bet she could use cake and brownies for some of her flavors."

Erik smiles a bit smugly in response.

"I think that's a good idea. Max would be very excited to collaborate. I've recently seen him at that old couple's bakery early in the mornings. Surely the two businesses could come to a mutually beneficial arrangement."
