"Interestin' name," Lucas drawls casually, but his own interest is piqued moments later, brows lifting towards his hairline.

"Woah, that sounds like some Men in Black shit." He's impressed! And slightly weirded out.

"What! You can't say that and not follow through with the story, man!"

"Because...it's not a pleasant one." Ianto admits with a sigh--but he finds he's not as reluctant to talk about it as he might otherwise be. It's...not easier, but he feels a bit steadier as of late. Shored up by the connections he's made, and the ones deepening into friendships...nice blokes like that London bloke and the nice blue German, casual friends like Nieve, and--other relationships, like the oddly complex one he has with Dahlia.

"Cardiff--where I'm from. There's a rift in time and space running through it." he explains. "Turns out, someone locked this big horned wanker named Abaddon beneath it, and...me 'n my mates got tricked into opening the damn thing to set him loose on the city. Our...boss stopped it."

Ianto's voice catches on the word, and all of the things he has buried inside of it.

Boss. Friend. Lover...beloved.

"Rarely is," Lucas doesn't press. He's patient and people usually tend to want to share, even if they are reluctant at first. So he sips from his coffee cup and waits.

And after that doozy of a tale, he gives a low whistle. "Yeesh, you weren't kidding. I bet that took a bit of work, huh?"

Although the way that Ianto says boss tugs at Lucas. There's a deeper meaning there that he won't guess at, only know that it lurks. "And now you end up here like it's another Tuesday. Life's funny like that, right?"
