I Was Looking for a Breath of Life
Who: Valdis (redlightgreenlight) & Open
What: Valdis wanders around Marrow Isle

Things are going, but that’s about it. Her attempts to integrate herself into the community seems so much harder than she expected, perhaps because she’s not trying to play a role. It’s a balance, trying to find who she is outside of her past persona, outside of the Eterna, outside of Tiamat. She needs to gather allies, make new friends, and settle a life for herself. Valdis thought it would be easier to be happy.
As a result, she drops 50 brass on the bartop and flashes a smile at the next person who approaches. “Drinks all around!”

Despite the demons that occasionally appear, her day patrols have been quiet enough that she checks in on the different businesses around town, saying hello to friends and acquaintances alike. Sometimes she’ll linger longer to discuss the recent happenings.
The night patrols are a little busier depending on if demons or those with ill intentions are around. Sometimes she runs into the Tristitia tormenting someone and has to drive the poor creature off. On this particular night, it is bothering someone, though she can’t quite make out who it is, she moves quickly to intercept.

"I'll stay right here. I promise. Love you, Valdis." He snuggles in deeper on the couch, just in time for Valdis's cotton ball of a kitten to pounce on his lap and claim him as her playground. See, now he's trapped. He can't go anywhere when there's a cat on his lap. Everyone knows that.

She rushes back outside and over to the neighbor's down the road to ask if Roheryn can stay in their barn for the night. After getting him settled she grabs wood from outside her house and heads inside to see Max cuddling with Anani, or at least trying to. The kitten was crawling all over him, purring and rubbing his face against Max's chin. She puts the wood in the fireplace and strikes a flame into existence.
"Come here," she says to the kitten, plucking him off of Max and placing him aside. "Do you need help upstairs or do you want to stay down here tonight."

Kitten headbutts are good for the soul. Max doesn't seem to mind, if the giggling coming from him is anything to judge by. He never had a cat growing up so he's still learning what their gestures all mean, but he loves little Anani like his own already.
"I can make it upstairs. I feel better already after resting here with 'Ani,'" his pet name for Anani. "Did you get Roheryn settled somewhere safe?"

She's fast, so it didn't take her long to get home. Valdis leans down to kiss him, letting Anani scrambled up to rest on her shoulder.
"Come on, let's get you to bed so you can rest."

"I love you so much," he tells her, letting himself be helped up to bed.
When they reach the bedroom, he will strip all the way down to the nude so he can soak in as much contact with her as he can, warm skin to skin.

She knows he won't forget, but she would never ignore him or any of his requests.
"I love you too, Max. Forever and always."
As he crawls into bed, she also removes her work clothes. A shower would be so nice, but she wants to keep an eye on Max until she knows he's feeling better. He still feels so tired and drained.
"Max, will you be alright for a few minutes so I can wash the day off?"

"Yes. Go ahead." All of that is murmured into the side of a pillow where he already has his head cradled. He's fighting for all he's worth just to keep his eyes open enough to look at her. "I'm okay right here."
He'll likely be snoozing by the time she gets back.

By the time she returns, he is quietly resting so she crawls into bed, doing her best to not disturb him. She slowly settles against him so he can feel her warmth and settles down to sleep, encouraged by his steady breathing and heartbeat.
