Things are going, but that’s about it. Her attempts to integrate herself into the community seems so much harder than she expected, perhaps because she’s not trying to play a role. It’s a balance, trying to find who she is outside of her past persona, outside of the Eterna, outside of Tiamat. She needs to gather allies, make new friends, and settle a life for herself. Valdis thought it would be easier to be happy.

As a result, she drops 50 brass on the bartop and flashes a smile at the next person who approaches. “Drinks all around!”

Despite the demons that occasionally appear, her day patrols have been quiet enough that she checks in on the different businesses around town, saying hello to friends and acquaintances alike. Sometimes she’ll linger longer to discuss the recent happenings.

The night patrols are a little busier depending on if demons or those with ill intentions are around. Sometimes she runs into the Tristitia tormenting someone and has to drive the poor creature off. On this particular night, it is bothering someone, though she can’t quite make out who it is, she moves quickly to intercept.

"That's fair. I've never been drunk myself, so I can't truly relate, but I have seen what happens to others."

Not for lack of trying on the Eterna, but here, here is different.

"At some point, I might experiment to see where my tolerance lies now, but that's probably something to do during a private party with everyone, including Magne, aware. I don't think I'd be an angry drunk by any means, but I don't want her being the only one to deal with me." César is considerate to a fault; he actually rubs his chin and tilts his head a little. "It's honestly useful information to know, now that I think about it. Since I actually have a social life."

"You've never had a social life before?"

It makes sense, from what she knows of him, but it's still sad.

César stammers for a moment and actually sounds offended. "That's not--of course I have! Just not when I was working myself half to death trying to save lives and the world after my parents died. I'm not that bad!"

And then he catches himself, and he stops, and he winces in embarrassment. "... sorry. That idea's just... a sore subject for me."

In hindsight, she should have expected that reaction, but he quickly apologizes and she nods her head in acceptance.

"You're fine, I apologize to touching a sore spot."

She smiles and holds up her drink, "To new opportunities and friends."

He rubs the back of his neck, feeling his embarrassment grow. "I know you didn't mean anything. The last ten months back home were... well, bad on the social front."

César drops his hand and picks up his own drink, toasting her, forcing those thoughts away to smile brighter again. "To new opportunities and friends."

Valdis lifts her drink to her lips with a smile, taking a small sip.

"I still need to get out to your farm and ride the fence line. Perhaps I can find a few more volunteers to ride with me."

César takes a sip of his as well. "There's actually a decent fence line to ride now. And a good riding trail behind it.. Estrella's doing really well with strangers."

"I'm sure the fence is in fine shape, but it's fun to ride and check it anyway. I'm sure Roheryn will get along just fine with Estrella."

The black stallion was very well behaved.

"Oh, you have your own!" That makes César smile. "... It's been forever since I've gone on a ride with someone else. Years, actually."

"He's from the Enforcers, but in essence he is mine while I work with them."

She smiles.

"I guess we'll have to ride together then."

"It'll be good for him to get used to the various farms." César smiles into his drink. "Looking forward to it. Maybe we should start arranging some trail rides. Get the horses and people exercise and socialization."

"That would be fun. I can invite a few others from the enforcers, maybe Ava."

Ava would enjoy getting out in the air like that. If she can sit on the horse long enough. Valdis can only hope she feels better after reviving.

"I haven't met Ava yet. It'd be nice to get to know some of the new neighbors. I've been meaning to... and I have time now." César looks slightly embarrassed. "Had to get my schedule in order first. Went a little too far, and Magne tapped my shoulder to remind me equilibrium in all things is important."

"I'm glad Magne is teaching you to take care of yourself."

They could all use someone like that and it sounds like César has hit the jackpot.

"More reminding me that I should," César looks over towards Magne, smiling warmly, then looks back. "She just has to say 'hey, stop that', and I do. Didn't even get a chance to overwork myself for a whole week."

He shrugs, amused entirely at himself. "Anyway, my schedule's pretty flexible now. Let me know a day everyone's good with, and I can join up."

"How about tomorrow? I'll bring Roheryn and we can check out the trail just us for the first time so Estrella can get used to having multiple riders around."

César thinks through his schedule. "... I could do that—nothing I've got to do will take up all day. Starting her off slow would be good."

"Great! I'll meet you when I get off shift. There should still be enough daylight for a decent ride."

Especially if she starts early.

"Hmm, when does your shift usually end? I can get ready whenever, but it'd be a bit easier...." César shrugs.

"Early afternoon, maybe 1pm-ish. Does that work for you?"

César gives a thumbs up. "That sounds perfect for me. Right when I need a brain break, usually."

He actually takes breaks now, wonders be damned.

Valdis smiles, "perfect, I'll see you then!"

"Excellent!" César takes another swig of his drink. "... oh, I'm actually starting to feel it a little."

He laughs brightly at that. César isn't worried about being a little tipsy, here. Not in this place.
