WELCOME POTLUCK

Greetings, residents! Those more observant sorts among you may have noticed a large influx of very crowded ferries. In order to welcome our new residents en masse, Town Hall is holding a potluck in Town Square. Please bring a dish if you are able and make a new friend!

All of our newest arrivals need only bring themselves. We look forward to welcoming you all into our community, and may your lanterns always be lit.

This event is open to all! In light of our new influx of prospective players following the Great Sail Migration, we've decided to offer a small public event to tide everyone over until the TDM this weekend.

"Yes, I know quite a few. I happen to be fluent in French, myself. I lived there for a time. Unfortunately, my Spanish is only conversational at best. I had been working on it but it wasn't a priority for me at the time."

César laughs, takes a moment, and then switches to French. "[It's all right. I could always teach you more Spanish.]"

And then he takes a bite of the fudge.

César chews the piece. Because he can't spit it out. That's rude.

And he forces himself to swallow.

"That's... a very interesting flavor." César can't even blank his face.

It's far too late for him to even try to blank his face or bluff. Even if he did, Erik wouldn't be able to mistake the change in his vital signs as he fought for his life to chew and swallow.

"It's no good." Erik says sadly. "I can tell. This is why vampires generally do not attempt to cook."

César pats him on the shoulder but uh yeah he's gotta take a drink of the ale I've just decided he's holding in his other hand. "I mean... you made it look right?" He winces. "... okay, that wasn't helpful. How much have you, ah, cooked recently?"

He appreciate the effort. He knows you're trying, Cesar.

"This was the first thing I've attempted to make in... hmmm." Probably not a good sign that he's having to think this long about it. "It may be a century or more now."

The hesitation is most certainly not a good sign.

César looks down at the fudge in a mixture of appreciation and horror. "... okay, in that case, it's way better than you'd expect. It's only been 10 months for me, and I was still out of practice."

Hope you don't regret that bite later, Cesar.

"I did have a human living in my home who was extremely find of cooking. I tried to emulate what I saw him do. That may have helped." But not enough for Erik to remember that you are supposed to actually measure things and not just pour them in willy-nilly.

It takes César a moment to remember that 'human' isn't a loaded and exclusionary word for Erik. Woof. His Earth has certainly done a number on that.

"Huh, was this one of his recipes?" César asks, curious. "Maybe I can see where you went wrong... You might've mixed something up somewhere."

"Well..." Cesar, if you thought it was bad before, prepare yourself. "I would say it was less of a recipe and more that I tried to emulate what I saw him do."

[He had been rubbing his chin in consideration, but now, he slowly lowers his hand.]

"... I can see where you went wrong."

"If the answer is 'everywhere' then, yes, I gathered as much." Deadpan.

César puts a consoling hand on Erik's shoulder. "It's all right. There's plenty of other things you know vastly more about than I do. Everyone's got their own strengths."

"That's very kind of you to say." It's true, but Cesar didn't have to say it. And this is his reward(?) "I'd better stick to the pleasure of the flesh for now, eh?"

"I mean, I'm sure you can learn with practice..." César rubs the back of his neck, his smile a little sheepish. "... although that does remind me. I'm not going to ask for details here, but... can I get advice from you sometime? I-I want to do right by Magne when we're ready, and I'm inexperienced. I'd be willing to pay for that."

Erik's smile warms. He may have something of a sweet spot for these two love birds. "Of course. My time is yours to do with what you please so long as it's paid. I've been around for one thousand years. I'm sure I'll have some kernels of wisdom that can put you at ease."

Wow, that's old.

Some more stress comes off César's shoulders that he didn't know he was carrying, and he brightens. "A consultation, then. Clothes on. When I've learned to give myself some time to breathe. Magne's already got my number to figuring that out. But I don't want to have to manage me in bed. You know?"

He hesitates, then shrugs, trying to indicate he's done over-explaining that last bit.
