WELCOME POTLUCK

Greetings, residents! Those more observant sorts among you may have noticed a large influx of very crowded ferries. In order to welcome our new residents en masse, Town Hall is holding a potluck in Town Square. Please bring a dish if you are able and make a new friend!

All of our newest arrivals need only bring themselves. We look forward to welcoming you all into our community, and may your lanterns always be lit.

This event is open to all! In light of our new influx of prospective players following the Great Sail Migration, we've decided to offer a small public event to tide everyone over until the TDM this weekend.

“Roman Catholic, if you happen to be familiar.”

For what it’s worth, Mulcahy doesn’t startle at the mention of monsters. He doesn’t even look any kind of surprised. He’s about to say something when there’s a little yip from below, and Mulcahy looks down to see—oh, delight of delights!

“Such as that little one?” he asks, immediately crouching down to greet it and holding out a hand to sniff. “Hello, Ghost!”

Snakes perks up. "You're from Earth, then. Nice to meet somebody from home again."

He smirks a bit. "Nah, he ain't a lawbreaker. He's good at protecting from them, though."

Ghost sniffs his hand and wags his tail, also perking up. He seems pleased with the new company.

"He's something called a Pokemon, apparently," Snakes says. "A Zorua."

Mulcahy smiles as he reaches behind the little one's ears to give it a skritch.

"So he's--ah, a specific kind of animal called a Pokemon, like a species? And his... breed is 'Zorua?'" He's trying here. "It's been a very long time since I've seen real creatures. Oh, what a delight this little one is! He must be very well behaved if you have him out without a leash."

That's okay!

Ghost is delighted! He leans into Mulcahy's hand.

"Yeah, seems so," Snakes says. "There were a whole bunch of 'em around in the fall. Some of them decided to stick around people and they stayed after the rest of 'em moved on." He smiles a bit. "I've never met any animals like them. They seem to have human-level intelligence. Ghost is real good, yeah. No need for a leash."

Then he frowns a bit as the rest of those statements process. "What kind of a place were you in that didn't have animals?"

A raised brow at ‘human-level intelligence.’ He makes a note to ask about that later, but first:

“A large cruise ship. It’s a bit like a floating city, but there were only about seventy of us. We were on an empty sea, and never made land to any real place. There were no animals, and every plant was as good as plastic, and each day was the same hot summer day, down to the same clouds in the sky.”

All this, while he distracts himself with doting on Ghost. He looks very pleased.

Pokemon are definitely something else.

Snakes grunts. "That sounds ... really dull. If it was like a city, I guess it had stuff to do onboard, at least?"

Ghost makes a happy sound.
