WELCOME POTLUCK

Greetings, residents! Those more observant sorts among you may have noticed a large influx of very crowded ferries. In order to welcome our new residents en masse, Town Hall is holding a potluck in Town Square. Please bring a dish if you are able and make a new friend!

All of our newest arrivals need only bring themselves. We look forward to welcoming you all into our community, and may your lanterns always be lit.

This event is open to all! In light of our new influx of prospective players following the Great Sail Migration, we've decided to offer a small public event to tide everyone over until the TDM this weekend.

Zelda chuckles at this, just as warm. "I tend to have a rather noisy mind, myself. Though for me it tends to be racing thoughts, but my work aboard a fishing vessel has led me to some very catchy sea shanties as of late! What sort of music do you like?"

"Classical, mostly. I played piano and violin as a child. My mother made me start, but then refused to allow me to pursue them as a career. No starving artist life for me, heh." He's noticing her ears and her height with mild surprise, but chooses not to ask questions about those at this time.

"Fishing vessel. So we are not strictly kept to the island, but have some of the space around it?"

[hyliasblessing]

"Mmm." Zelda nods empathetically. "Yes, my father was quite, um. Particular. About my skillset as well. I was to spend a lot of time praying and studying, so I had a great deal to learn when I left home."

"But yes! There is an area of about three miles past the circumference on the island on all sides of ocean that is safe. You can see a visible ring where the water lightens--- past that is only fog, then storms and monsters. It's impossible to go beyond that area without shipwrecking."

[spaghettification]

"Impossible. Truly impossible, or 'harder than we've been able to manage'?"

He wants to be sure of the scope of the problem, with as much certainty as he can gather. Impossible is a fucky word that people use to introduce limitations.

"As far as I am aware, the former. Those trying to fly have evidently experienced similar issues. If there is a way around it, I'm afraid no one here has figured it out." Zelda casts her eyes around thoughtfully. "There is a strange energy here. Something pressing inwards. Like a stuffy room. It feels like even the air can't get out. Does that make any sense?"

[spaghettification]

"Ah, yes it does. External pressure on a membrane." His smile is that of an approving science teacher whose student just made an astute observation. "So, how do we open a window to relieve the pressure..."

[hyliasblessing]

"A good question! No one quite has the answer to that yet, but I suppose that's--- part of the journey, is finding out. At least I hope so." A beat. "Oh! Goodness, I got so caught up in interesting conversation that I didn't notice I hadn't introduced myself. I'm Zelda, Captain of the Mipha's Grace." It means something, the fact that she's choosing to call herself Captain before Princess these days.

"Dr. Siebren de Kuiper. Currently unemployed, I'm afraid. And I'm not certain an astrophysicist is what this island needs most. But it's what you've now gotten."

His mid-air bow is practiced, but his legs still kick out behind him a little when he bends forward.
