Mingle - Emergency Potluck
Pumpkin Hollow Community Bulletin
WELCOME POTLUCK
Greetings, residents! Those more observant sorts among you may have noticed a large influx of very crowded ferries. In order to welcome our new residents en masse, Town Hall is holding a potluck in Town Square. Please bring a dish if you are able and make a new friend!
All of our newest arrivals need only bring themselves. We look forward to welcoming you all into our community, and may your lanterns always be lit.
This event is open to all! In light of our new influx of prospective players following the Great Sail Migration, we've decided to offer a small public event to tide everyone over until the TDM this weekend.

Mulcahy wonders if, somehow—just, somehow, by the same indescribable forces of luck and chance that have been so present in his life these last many years, and despite the entirely Victorian nature of the town—he has ended up on the opposite side of the line.
But frankly, he never believed in the war anyway, and far be it from him to reject such earnest hospitality. Very earnest hospitality.
“Oh! Why, yes! What is it, cod?”

"... I see!" Mulcahy will politely take a piece of sushi and inspect it carefully to see if anything moves. Failing that, down the hatch it goes!

The nugget continues to Vibrate.

"How wonderful!" he exclaims. "If this were any fresher I'd worry about it wriggling in my mouth! Of course, wait too long, and I'd still be worrying the same." A short laugh. "This is lovely. Thank you, ah, Agent Jean. I'm Francis John Patrick Mulcahy, but you can simply call me Father Mulcahy. I'm a Catholic priest. I suppose there aren't too many Christians around here, are there?"

They look up and blink. "I'm not sure! My apologies, Father, I'm very uneducated on matters of theology."

"Why, that's quite alright; that sort of thing is what I'm here for. You've proven yourself quite learned with a very strong deductive skill already."
This does tell him that Jean is generally unfamiliar with Christians beyond their mention in text, though, which is an interesting note. And that they're from some kind of Earth. Perhaps? Not surprising in the least, but something to keep in mind.
"I'm sure I'll find them eventually, if they are here." Not like he isn't already thinking about going to get a shrine established somewhere. "I have another question though. Is there anyone here trained in silversmithy?"

“I see!” So that etymological know-how was specialized as part of their vocation. “If I may ask, what sort of work was that? Were you a translator?”

They blink. "Wait! Remembered that's not normal! Sorry! I'm just very excited!"

“… I would like to know more, but perhaps you should tell me about it some time,” he concedes, with a gentle smile and a nod. “I’m not sure a potluck is the best place to go into detail about such things. But as for myself… before I was on that torturous prison ship, I was drafted in the Army, in a mobile hospital. And before that, I was a hospital chaplain. I make it my duty to see to the wounded and the sick.”

He bows his head slightly. “Thank you. But it’s simply where I’m needed. There’s no shame in cloistering oneself with books and study, they do very important work themselves. But for me, it… only felt right to go straight to where I could help.”
A pause. “Here, I’d like to do the same, only I think my services won’t be needed that often… I’ll have to see what else I can do for a job instead. I’m only very good at being a priest.”
