WELCOME POTLUCK

Greetings, residents! Those more observant sorts among you may have noticed a large influx of very crowded ferries. In order to welcome our new residents en masse, Town Hall is holding a potluck in Town Square. Please bring a dish if you are able and make a new friend!

All of our newest arrivals need only bring themselves. We look forward to welcoming you all into our community, and may your lanterns always be lit.

This event is open to all! In light of our new influx of prospective players following the Great Sail Migration, we've decided to offer a small public event to tide everyone over until the TDM this weekend.

Neil nods with understanding. "You've been taken advantage of. I understand completely. I don't need the whole sordid tale, especially not when we're meant to be relaxing. But I do hope that with time you'll allow me to prove myself, as I truly am only interested in the mental and emotional well-being of my neighbors." He offers a handshake. "I don't believe I caught your name, by the way! Neil West, at your service."

"Dr. Siebren de Kuiper. A pleasure to meet you." His handshake is warm, friendly, the sot of handshake one academic gives another at a conference. Sigma knows from being an expert in one's field who falls into disgrace and obscurity.

A fellow doctor! How exciting. "Pleased to meet you! Welcome to Pumpkin Hollow. May I ask what field you work in?"

"Astrophysics! Specializing in the study of gravity. Which is how I acquired my struggles, I'm afraid."

But still, the joy of meeting a distant colleague is there. More academia on Marrow Island.

"Ahh, I see! Yes, there are some rather unpredictable, dangerous things to be found in the cosmos. Astral and Eldritch magics in this world are considered among the most advanced for that very reason," Neil agrees.

"Magic?" Well, that's going to be something new to contend with. "Given the risks of working science associated with such matters...I can't imagine the magic being any safer."

"That definitely depends. I'd show you, but I, ah, haven't been able to find my arcane focus. More intricate magic can definitely be dangerous without it. But I can definitely still do a few parlor tricks!" He presses his hands together, then spreads them, an illusory star map appears.

Siebren's breath catches at the sight of the map, and he leans in closer to look at it, clearly deeply fascinated by what's on display.

"Your universe is beautiful."

Neil grins. "I'm very glad you think so! I would have to agree. Do you intend to continue your research here?"

"I hope to. I don't think I could abstain from seeking truth regardless of where I am. You world may work differently. I may need to learn foreign rules. But I will harness the harness and unlock understanding, somehow."
