WELCOME POTLUCK

Greetings, residents! Those more observant sorts among you may have noticed a large influx of very crowded ferries. In order to welcome our new residents en masse, Town Hall is holding a potluck in Town Square. Please bring a dish if you are able and make a new friend!

All of our newest arrivals need only bring themselves. We look forward to welcoming you all into our community, and may your lanterns always be lit.

This event is open to all! In light of our new influx of prospective players following the Great Sail Migration, we've decided to offer a small public event to tide everyone over until the TDM this weekend.

"Why not? Surprise me, doctor."

Not so paranoid she won't take her chances if they're open.

[spaghettification]

Sigma meanders off, returning with two glasses of berry cordial. He allows her to pick which glass she wants.

"To your health, Fever."

[abhorrently]

"And yours, and being here now."

She raises the glass she's chosen in his direction before taking a sip out of it. That's good - she'll have to get her hands on a proper bottle of it sooner or later.

[spaghettification]

"Being here now, indeed. It is...very different than my previous circumstances."

He isn't yet sure if it's for better or worse.

[abhorrently]

"A change of pace usually helps throw things in perspective. Or if nothing else, it's new memories, new people, new experiences. The chance to try anything and everything you get your hands on."

Which may go a ways to explaining the eclectic mix of food on her plate.

[spaghettification]

"I wonder if the night sky here is substantially different from back home. New stars to map, hm?" Look, the man has his priorities.

[abhorrently]

"Are you an astrologer, doctor?"

The sky - the stars being different hadn't occurred to her until this very moment, but it's now exciting.

[spaghettification]

"One better--I'm an astrophysicist, specializing in the study of gravity!" Hence the floating, obviously.

"Physicist...is that a form of scientist?"

There is genuine desire to know behind her words, a careful extending of her curiosity. When one comes from a realm of magic, those who achieve such things as being able to turn one thing to another, travel to distant places, communicate without sending spells? Those become the true wonder, much as the idea of sorcery might be new to them as well.

“Indeed, a scientist who studies the stars and how they dance, and why they burn.”

It’s clear he’s driven by wonder, rather than how his innovations can be used. Which makes his life in his canon all the sadder.

[abhorrently]

"Why, that's extraordinary."

And all the more so that his people have deduced it without magic. At least, that's her assumption, given how he has no magical presence. Hard work and things she can't even comprehend must go into it.

"I've never met someone like you before, doctor. Not in all my life."

The closest she got to those who study the stars, they were spacefarers, and their areas of expertise were quite different.

“Well. Now you have, and you can join me to watch the stars some night. Yes? In a town like this, light pollution at light will be limited. It’ll be a very crisp night sky. Perhaps I’ll even be able to point out other planets orbiting the same sun.”

This is on absolutely no way an attempt to ask Fever on a date. He is purely looking for a stargazing partner.

Her eyes light up at the prospect. It'll be a glorious way to spend a free night, and she has no other obligations yet that would get in the way.

"It'd be my sincere pleasure. We'll figure out some way to coordinate it, as soon as we settle in."

[spaghettification]

"Good. I'll look forward to it, Fever." He bows politely mid-air, a very silly gesture because his feet do kick out behind him a little in the process.
