WELCOME POTLUCK

Greetings, residents! Those more observant sorts among you may have noticed a large influx of very crowded ferries. In order to welcome our new residents en masse, Town Hall is holding a potluck in Town Square. Please bring a dish if you are able and make a new friend!

All of our newest arrivals need only bring themselves. We look forward to welcoming you all into our community, and may your lanterns always be lit.

This event is open to all! In light of our new influx of prospective players following the Great Sail Migration, we've decided to offer a small public event to tide everyone over until the TDM this weekend.

Dahlia Leeds || NPC || OTA

Dahlia Leeds, a member of town council and the daughter of the town's founder, can be found accepting dish donations and arranging them on the serving table. Need help? She'll probably be running around the whole time. But if you're lucky you can also catch her sitting down to eat!

"Thank you for putting this together so quickly!" César's got two closed dishes stacked carefully on top of each other. "I've got ingredient cards for these, too... we need to make sure the spicy one and the mild ones don't get mixed up."

Dahlia chuckles, taking the top one. "That spicy, huh? Which one is this?"

"The top one; it's the smaller one." Only César didn't realize how much people would like it. "But yes... for some."

"Is that so?" Dahlia gives him a wry look, setting down the plate and holding out a hand for the ingredient card. "Perhaps I'll have to try it, test my mettle."

César gives her the correct ingredient guard after double-checking it to be sure. "Please do. I don't expect too many to take up trying it out."

He is very, very mistaken in his estimate of how many people will gravitate towards the spicy food.

"Given to understand you put this together, yeah?"

It's Erin! She is still eating, and has fully given in to the sugar cravings. The balanced part of her diet is out of the way and Erin has wholly returned to decimating the dessert options. "Erin Peters. I uh. I made the entrance just earlier, y'all were there."

Dahlia raises a brow. "I saw." She's currently got a plate full of several meat dishes and one scoop of veggies. So yeah, about the same as Erin, but in a different way. "That was unique."

[crushed_pearls]

"I'm not sure what happened. This weathered lass with white hair, old fighter like me..."

Death meets you where you are.

"...She found me trying to get in. Lent a hand, gave me a ride in."

"Mortanne," Dahlia explains easily. "She's the one who's been helping everyone else. Though she tends to send them by ferry. You must've impressed her, to get a personal ride in."

[crushed_pearls]

"Eh, maybe." Erin shrugs with a guilty grin. "I can't say how much I appreciate this as a welcome. It's been...rough. As you probably guessed from the faceplant."

"Of course! We're happy to organize it." Dahlia's smile seems to reach her voice, but there's a distance to it, somehow. "I can't say things have been going particularly well here, but we're glad to have you all. Strength in numbers, right?"

[crushed_pearls]

"It's not the numbers, it's how you deploy them." Erin flashes a wan grin, tucks her hands casually into her pockets. "...Honestly though, I think you'll find us highly motivated. A real reality...it's, it's been awhile."

"I noticed a lot of you came from the same place. It... must've been a troubling place."

"Our most thoughtful ethicist was a cannibalistic serial killer, so, you could say that." Erin sighs. "...I hope he made it out. Great guy. Like. Shockingly great."

Later in the potluck, she'll be approached by one of the newcomers with a polite smile on, having toured around the booths and had food and generally settled some more in.

"Dahlia Leeds? I've been sent to speak with you."

Dahlia perks up with interest at this. "Oh? By whom?"

"River, the woman running the table over there with the weapons and armor. I was speaking with her, and she mentioned that Town Hall might be needing some hands with paperwork and the like. Especially with so many of us newcomers arriving - I've come to offer myself in that regard."

Paperwork is a far cry from what she's used to, but it's something to start with, while she figures the rest of it all out.

At this, Dahlia smiles, a bit coy. "You don't look much like a typical filing clerk."

"I'm a woman of many talents."

Her own smile gains a bit of a warmer edge.

"Filing among them, if needed."

Sometime near the end of the potluck, with most of the food gone and many of the attendees already leaving, one of the newcomers approaches Dahlia.

"Excuse me, are you Ms. Leeds? Someone said I should talk to you. I know you're probably very busy, I'll be as brief as I can."

"Oh--- no, not at all!" Dahlia smiles brightly, hands folded politely in front of her. "How can I help?"

"Well, that was going to be my question." She smiles back. "I'm Zivia Birnbaum, new in town, and -- well, I know there's need of all sorts of work here, I'm trying to get an idea of where clerical work in particular might be needed. The person who pointed me in your direction thought you might have some suggestions."

A beat, and she gestures at the surrounding tables. "Also, more short-term: do you need any extra hands for clearing up? I've run enough parties to know it's always easier to get volunteers for setup than teardown."

"Oh that's excellent! We always need help in Town Hall. Yorick Aberdeen is the mayor's assistant, and he's also writing and editing the newspaper, but he's dying every other day so Cecil Palmer usually has to pick up the slack on that. I just lost my own personal assistant not too long ago. And the other Town Council members either have outside jobs or think themselves above clerical work, so we always need a hand," Dahlia prattles, clearly relieved. "I did speak to another young lady about a filing clerk job, but we can always use the hands."

(With some effort, Zivia doesn't react visibly to dying every other day.)

"Hands I've got," she says cheerfully, "and I'm good at organizing, once I get the system figured out. I'll need a little time to get settled into town, but other than that I can start anytime."

She's noticed that Dahlia hasn't answered the other question, about clearing up after the potluck, but she'll wait and see if that's forthcoming.
