[OPEN] The Page and the Stage is the Cage

Who: Annabel Lee Whitlock and You
When: End of November
Summary: Carnival Aftermath, Daily Work, Other Chaos
Warnings: Will be noted in comment subject lines

1. Pandora had a pretty little box [For Jean]
It is a couple weeks after the carnival when she works up the testicular fortitude balls to find Jean, but she does, accosting him near the docks when the ship's returned to land.

"We...should talk?"

2. And wisely she kept it hid [Whitlock Needleworks]
Annabel's working on embroidering a length of ribbon for trim, sitting on the front porch of her home-slash-shop. It's a nice day, and she's enjoying watching the ebb and flow of people in town as she works. Do you need clothing mended or decorated? Now's a good time to catch her.

3. 'Til one day she couldn't resist [Ice Skating]
Annabel's managed to befriend exactly one Pokemon, a shiny Froslass that she's calling Ligeia. An ice/ghost type, they get along really well. Especially when Ligeia gets creative ideas.

There's a pond on the Leeds estate, and Annabel has obtained permission to let Ligeia freeze it solid so that she (and anyone else who gets dragged out for fun) can go skating. Find her bundled up skating lazy laps around the edge of the pond, or perhaps trying a couple turns.

(Note: Skates are 50B if you want to buy your own pair.)

4. Playing around with the lid [Wildcard]
Catch me at darkersolstice on plurk or discord to plot.

"I wouldn't say 'conflict' so much as 'don't combine well'. Like oil and water, they can exist next to each other but blending them doesn't really... work. But! While I can think of schools that might not suit your personal style, I can think of none which might be inaccessible."

He carries on lecturing at length, as if he's forgotten entirely where he is or why he is here.

"The two most common schools of magic are Practical and Elemental. Practical magic is the practice of finding magic within the mundane and drawing it out in ways that are tangible, and most mages find this useful for their day-to-day so it's a common starting point. It ranges from things such as levitating objects to alchemy. Elemental magic is nature magic, wherein magic is drawn from the natural world and spells are typically sorted into easily digestible sub-categories such as fire, water, lightning, ice, and so forth. A lot of it falls in line with the teachings of the Temple, so it is common among religious folk, but nature is also just an extremely palpable source of magical energy and therefore elemental magic is generally quite easy to perform."

"Beyond that, there are the Radiant, Astral, Baneful, Eldritch, and Chaotic schools of magic. For the sake of brevity--- Radiant magic is light magic used for healing, warding, and banishing; Astral magic is derived from celestial bodies, includes divination, and is very old; Baneful magic is mostly just curses; Eldritch magic is derived from the abyss, the mind, and the blood and includes necromancy; and Chaotic magic is... well, very modern and very improvised, and based in the idea that intuition is more effective than proper form or calculation. I know a fair amount of each, though I admittedly struggle with Chaos magic because I was brought up on old-guard practices."

"The charms are predominantly Radiant and Practical magic, by the way."

"That happens to be my go-to as well, alongside Astral. However, I would recommend that you mind how openly you discuss it. Some aspects of Eldritch magic are considered rather controversial, as some believe it raises ethical or safety concerns. Not an entirely unfair criticism." Neil shrugs lightly. "In any case, I'd be happy to teach you the basics of each and expand on areas where you excel."
