Who: Cecil and Gerry; Also Cecil and You?
When: Ugh, Scorpio season.
Summary: Lot 37; Library Visit; Something cute because I deserve it.
Warnings: Possible discussion of coercion and fears?

1. Then One Night [Closed to Gerry]
Cecil is sitting near the fountain in Festival Green when Gerry catches up to him, working on editing an article, a scowl on his face. Someone is quite aware Lot 37 has been sold. Someone is braced to be used at any moment.


2. He Was Nowhere to be Found [Open - Greymare Library]
Now, living where he does, right by Town Hall and the Clock Tower means that Cecil's home is also right beside the Library. In Night Vale, the Library was a place of grave danger, the Librarians violent and prone to attacking anyone who desired to read. Here, he's been reassured that's not the case. Regardless, though, there is a caution written on his expressive face as he walks with mincing steps toward the shelves, a look of awe on his face.

Perhaps you're also here to read, or you're the kind of jackass who'd sneak up behind someone who's clearly already on alert and scare them. Either way, here, have a Cecil.


3. Under the Starlight [Open - Outside somewhere]
There is a pile of leaves someone's raked up. Cecil has noticed this pile. It's tall and thick and looks awfully soft. And with a glance left, a glance right, and a broad grin, he's going to take a running leap into the pile, because at heart he's still a little juvenile.

Come join him, or maybe admonish him for ruining someone's hard work.

“Joy for the sake of remembering that joy can still be felt, even when things are Bad™, really.” Did he just pronounce the trademark symbol, somehow? Yes, yes he did.

Eddie props himself up on one elbow and gives Cecil another bemused look -- not sure exactly how Cecil managed to make that noise, or how he was able to parse that it was the noise for a trademark symbol.

"I suppose I'll submit to your expertise yet again." Eddie twirls a bright yellow leaf by its stem, and asks, "How's it going, working for the newspaper?"

“Good, when Yorick’s not dead. I mean, I can hold down the fort when he is, but it’s a little awkward sometimes. Also when he’s flirting with the mayor. That is very awkward.”

[batteryacid]

"....Huh." Eddie frowns thoughtfully over that one. "Yorick and Mayor Poe. Not somethin' I would've seen developing."

Eddie isn't very observant when it comes to romance.

"Maybe you can flirt with someone while Yorick is just... awkwardly there, too. Turnabout being fair play and all."

[lasthumanvoice]

“Oh! Perhaps I could. I could invite him around to the office…” This is, apparently a specific him.

[batteryacid]

"Oh, got someone in mind?" Eddie asks with a smile.

People probably gossip about Eddie and Angel enough, it's not like Eddie's immune to curiosity about other romantic pairings.

[lasthumanvoice]

“Gerry Keay. I mean, I’d also flirt with Erik Osborne, you know, the whore? But that’s more for play, of course.”

He says ‘the whore’ with the same tone as he might say ‘the farmer’ after Eddie’s name.

"...you know, I can honestly say that I did not know he was a whore." Eddie snorts, "I actually thought Lord Osborne was a mob boss, before he admitted to being a vampire."

And then Eddie circles back around to the first thing Cecil said. "You and Gerry, though? That's sweet. He's a good guy and so are you. I hope you make each other happy."

[lasthumanvoice]

“Well. Someone has to love the crap out of him. He’s amazing.” Cecil grins brilliantly.

[batteryacid]

"Such a burden you've taken on, lovin' the crap outta Gerry," Eddie teases, flicking another leaf at Cecil.

"But also... just so you know, I consider him a good friend. And if you break his heart, you'll end up fertilizing my tomatoes. Which are currently hypothetical, but so's the rest of the situation." And Eddie smiles oh so pleasantly at Cecil after that.

“He seems like he’s spent enough time hurt that I really don’t want to add to that.” Cecil’s voice is quieter now, not radio presenter voice, but soft boyfriend voice.

[batteryacid]

"Yes," Eddie says, serious as well, "I'm pretty sure he has."

Eddie reaches out to pat Cecil on the shoulder. "And I don't really think you will. Add to the hurt. Not wanting to is a big part of not ending up doing so, sometimes."

[lasthumanvoice]

Cecil laughs quietly. “Your faith in me is appreciated. Will you make the same threats in his direction for me?”

[batteryacid]

"Yes, but Gerry is bony, so the carrots would benefit more." This is said with a straight face. But Cecil should still get the underlying message -- you're a friend and I don't want to see you hurt by love either.

[lasthumanvoice]

“You hardly notice how bony when he’s holding you.” Shameless, Cecil.

[batteryacid]

Eddie laughs. "All the same, I'll stick to Angel."

[lasthumanvoice]

“Sure, sure. Doesn’t he get cold to cuddle up to, being all…” here, a loose gesture that implies ‘you know’. Cecil is polite enough to stop short of a comment on necrophilia, but he can loudly imply it.

[batteryacid]

"I hardly notice," Eddie says. He lets his voice drop a little softer, "All we've really done is snuggle and kiss. And we're both happy to leave it there."

[lasthumanvoice]

“Oh. Okay, that makes more sense, maybe. Are you asexual?” Surprise, it’s another modern queer guy who actually speaks the language!

[batteryacid]

"I don't think we used that word back home," Eddie replies. He thinks it over, though.

"I guess I'm just not very interested when it comes to sex. I'm attracted to people, and I like being romanced... but sex acts just... aren't very appealing. Would that count as asexual?"

[lasthumanvoice]

Cecil holds up a leaf in each hand. “So, what I’m about to talk about isn’t how everyone everywhere thinks of things, but. For you, this might be useful, alright? It’s called the ‘split attraction model’. It’s the idea that your sexual attraction drive might not line up perfectly with your romantic attraction drive. And if I had a third hand, I’d hold up another leaf for the aesthetic attraction drive.”

Leaves are lightly tossed in the air. “It’s the idea that you can go ‘I’m into the idea of doing a romance with that person’ without meaning ‘I want to fuck that person right now.’ And that you could go ‘that person is hot!’ Without either of the first two. If you habitually don’t experience sexual attraction? That’s being asexual. If you don’t experience romantic attraction, that’s aromantic.”

"Hmm... okay." Eddie considers that explanation. "I am not aromantic. I am very much into 'doing a romance' with Angel. But I think I probably am asexual, or close enough. I've had sex before, but mostly just because I wanted to have kids with my wife at the time, and that's how it's done, you know? I never really have those 'I want to fuck that person' thoughts."

[lasthumanvoice]

“Hey, that’s pretty neat. They have an asexual pride flag and everything, it looks really awesome.”

Priorities, Cecil.

“But it’s not a bad thing, you know that, right? You’re not broken or lacking or wrong, you’re just ace.”

Eddie smiles at the mention of an awesome looking pride flag. He's familiar with the six-stripe version of the rainbow flag, though not many other variants.

His expression softens, though, with the assurance Cecil gives. "Thank you for saying that. I... maybe I felt that way before. But... not with Angel. And not with people all seeming so happy about me and Angel."

[lasthumanvoice]

“Seeming? We are happy. Love makes the world warmer. Not just the big flashy showy love, but love that remembers to buy someone’s favorite fruit at the grocery store, or to put a blanket in the dryer so it’s all fluffy for bed. You have a good thing, and that’s good.”

It reminds him of early days with Carlos. Not of the time they spent apart when he was desperate for the rare phone calls.
