(Belated) SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR LUCAS!!!!

Okay so, it's the day after. But admittedly, yesterday was kinda... bad. What with the whole carnival business.

So Milo is celebrating today! And he's inviting everyone he can think of that is friends with Lucas. His farmhouse is decorated with free scratch paper he got from the library that he has made into all sorts of things--- a banner, confetti, and other little paper ornaments. It's not fancy, but it'll do. And also, he's prepared a home-cooked feast with veggies and eggs and milk from his very own farm.

He has the guests come over a half hour early to pile their gifts on the kitchen counter. Lucas is asked to come a bit later, so that he can walk into a room where all his friends are standing with confetti and a cake to yell "Surprise!" at him. Aw yeah. Classic. That's the good shit.

Milo made Lucas a jar of hand-made fucks.

Chris's gift to Lucas is a mirror wreath -- a round mirror about seven inches across, and the frame is a woven wicker wreath that has pheasant feathers and dried berries on the branch worked in as accents.

"Rowan found most of the feathers," Chris will explain, while their little Phantump friend waves happily at Lucas.

Wrapped in a neat silk pocket square with a ribbon is a new leather choker with a bell for Lucas. It's accompanied with a note that says:

Having a birthday on a holiday is always rough, but this one was one for the record books! With all the chaos afoot, the fact it was Halloween legitimately slipped his mind. The following morning he wakes tired and homesick and nearly thinks to drop by Milo's early to call off hanging out with him. After sulking over his morning coffee, Lucas decides to just roll with the invite as originally planned, never connecting the dots between it and the day prior.

Upon arriving at the farmhouse with Pumpkaboo floating above his shoulder, Lucas swings the door open and jumps back a few steps in surprise! "Woah! Surprise!? What?" He sputters in shock, but not without a genuine and lopsided grin.

"You totally got me!" He laughs moments later and enters the farmhouse properly this time. Lucas is all smiles and thank yous as he mingles with those present, either offering a big hug or a high five in greeting as he approaches. "Hey! Thanks for coming out, I wasn't really expecting this, like, at all!"

Sitting at the kitchen table, Lucas leans an elbow on it, chin in hand, as he glances over the party decorations and empty plates. A warm smile tugs at his lips. Pumpkaboo is sleeping soundly atop his gifts like a tiny dragon, but it's mostly the time spent with friends after a terrible day that he treasures most. Not to mention the fact that Milo really pulled out all the stops that he could!

"Dude, this was...really, really nice. I'm gonna have to get you back, you know?"

"We can't let these demons get away with ruining things anymore," Chris says, after high-fiving Lucas, "and that starts with your birthday. But this was all Milo's idea."

Rowan, meanwhile, gives Lucas a quick cuddle before zooming off to play with some of the other ghost Pokemon.

"Why not? You deserve the chance the celebrate," Erik says, coming up to greet Lucas with a smile. Not even the haunting events of the Carnivale can detour him from coming to pay his respects to one of his first friends here.

"Happy birthday, Lucas. I've left a little something for you on the gift table. You may want to open it in private."

After the party

"Hey, don't mention it!" Milo is cleaning up at a leisurely pace, a little buzzed from having a drink or two. "Yesterday was wack as hell, and I couldn't let that be all there was to your birthday, y'know?"
