[OTA] I'm asking why! (I'm asking why!)

Who: Marik Ishtar ([personal profile] thetombkeeper), briefly Matikanefukukitaru ([personal profile] fukuyokoi), Chenzira the Yamask, and others
What: Marik finds out about King Halo's departure from Pumpkin Hollow
When: Sometime after everyone returns from Paradesium but before Cukefest
Where: 109 Windflower Lane — Marik's House on the southern side of town
Warning(s): Extreme emotions, brief mentions of bodily fluid, family death, and possessiveness

It's early morning. The usual time Marik wakes up nowadays thanks to his schedule with King Halo. Sitting with Chenzira, his Yamask, he sips his tea and eats a light breakfast when he suddenly feels his Speaking Stone go off.

There's only one person who calls him regularly. He doesn't even need to guess who it is. The boy answers with her name: "Fuku. What's up?"

They've only really known each other for two months now but he's grown to enjoy the other Uma's company. He isn't entirely sure why she's decided to attach herself to him like she has asides from being dubbed King's 'trainer', however, he is thankful for it at times. Fukukitaru keeps things interesting with how expressive she is and always sees the best in everyone. Even him.

"Merriku!  I-I'm sorry to call you so early but... I went to go find King for our jog a-and... she's gone!" Her voice is panicked. Not the usually spazzy type when she gets momentarily upset. This time, it's true panic and concern.

Marik's stomach drops and his heart pounds, everything feeling very distant — as if the world is closing in around him. He takes a moment to recompose himself even if his gaze could burn holes through the Speaking Stone.

"... What do you mean, she's gone?"

"Her apartment was unlocked so when no one answered, I went in... No one was inside. I tried to call her on her Stone but it wouldn't even register I was asking for her...!"

He can hear the distress in her voice.

"It isn't like King to just vanish s-so... I think... she's returned home..." Fuku swallows, trying not to freak out as much as she'd like to, as this is a serious matter. She's far more concerned with how Marik is going to take the news.

She's returned home, the words echo in his mind.

Marik calmly sets his tea cup and Stone down on the table. Chenzira frowns as he watches the teen, unsure of what to do. It's clear his friend (master?) is upset and that makes him sad.

Eventually, the boy says softly, "... I see. Thank you for letting me know, Fuku."

The Uma stammers a bit. "You don't need to thank me...! I know you two meant a lot to each other so I thought... "

Marik cuts her off: "I appreciate it. I believe... we should take a break from jogging today."

A frown can be heard in Fukukitaru's voice. "O-Okay... Um... if you'd like me to come by—"

Again,  cut off. "Not right now, Fuku. I need some time alone."

Keep calm, wait until you're done talking with her.

"Right.. Just call me when you do, okay?" The Uma says before Marik ends the connection with a acknowledging grunt.

The house is deathly silent for a few moments.

And then — the tomb keeper rises from his chair and turns over the table, the items that had been placed on it going flying and smashing against the floor. The cup shatters, spilling liquid. The Stone simply bounces. His Yamask floats away in time, unsure of if he should get close or not as Marik kicks the downed table once, twice, a third time, his fists white knuckled from his anger.

His pupils are more constricted than usual and the shine gone from the color as he stares through the damaged table. His jaw is clenched so hard, he might shatter his teeth.

THEY TOOK HER AWAY... TOOK HER AWAY FROM ME. KING WAS MINE. MY FRIEND. THOSE DAMNED GODDESSES... HOW DARE THEY TAKE EVERYONE WHO MATTERS AWAY FROM ME!!

He spits curses in a dead language at the four mothers.

James Harvey, Valdis, and now King Halo. The three that have been the most influential in helping him become a better person. Sure, there are others, but they don't know. They don't know what lies beneath.

Although... Zivia might. Is she next? Will the goddesses take her away too? Simon, perhaos? Then Fuku? Lev? Who will it be?

The anger boils over and Marik screams at the ceiling, his entire body shaking with rage. His heartbeat is the only thing that fills his ears, everything else doesn't register. Not even his own voice. His breathing becomes ragged and his vision blurs.

He slowly lowers himself on to the ground, trying to make sense of what's going on. Why him? Why is it always him? Why does he have to suffer here as well?

For the first time since he was twelve, when he saw his father's lifeless body, Marik Ishtar cries.

He wails loudly, screaming until his throat is hoarse, his face drenched from tears and mucus. He hugs his knees to his chest, whimpering, shaking. Slowly, cautiously, Chenzira floats to the boy and drapes himself over one of Marik's shoulders.

His head hurts. His throat hurts. His heart hurts.

And all he can think is why.

[Marik will be holed up in his house for about a week, not speaking with anyone unless they come to him, and won't have his perfume stand set up either. Matikanefukukitaru will drag him out of the house for Cukefest though.]
