Catch-all for various plans, primarily closed TLs on demand but I'm open to wildcards and might do opens situationally. Alice is available over at her canon-update open and Ruby is available only on request.

Valdis sighs and shakes her head.

"If he does, he probably did something to deserve it."

She loves her adopted brother, but he can be a real idiot sometimes.

CT lets out a beat of laughter. "Yeah, probably. He does have a real case of foot in mouth disease, sometimes. And I'm a little concerned I might have given him enough information before knowing Carolina would ever turn up to make it even easier for him to step in it."

"Crichton is protective of the women in his life, whether they need it or not."

She knows from experience, but his heart is always in the right place.

"Watch them become friends."

Because he's good at that too.

She shakes her head. Yeah, he is good at that too. "If he can make it a few conversations without setting off the nuke he'll probably manage it. Somehow."

"Even if he does set her off, she'll come around, I don't think I've met anyone who truly dislikes him once they know him."

He's magical like that, even if she is biased.

Valdis looks around the room with a sigh.

"Gonna miss this part of the precinct, but it is what it is. Having all the groups in town report to me is going to be weird."

"I'll bet. You'll do a great job but it's a lot of responsibility and some thick roots being put down, too."

That's, at least, part of her own strange feelings about her climb through the ranks here, which she realises might just be a her thing. Having roots planted in a town she's still so primed to leave once this all passes, meaning leaving a hole behind if she tears them up.

That very thing weighs on her mind as well, what happens when she leaves, luckily if they are able to leave, it means the demons have been defeated.

"I think those roots will be easier to pull up than expected. If we are able to leave, it means we won and Pumpkin Hollow no longer needs us."

"I suppose so." The cynic in her can never quite shake the feeling it's not that simple. Leave behind a power vacuum in a place recovering from this kind of years long traumatic situation...

Well, they can hope.

"I guess we just have to make sure any positive change sticks."

Valdis nods.

"We'll get through it."

Then a smile.

"You should go tell everyone the good news, they'll be happy for you."

"Right, yes." She pushes the paperwork another inch across the desk and her chair back to stand up. "I guess I should."

Valdis stays sitting, inclining her head as she takes the paperwork back. She'll sign it and make everything completely official once CT leaves.

"Congratulations."
