The wedding invitation for Magne and César

And people wonder what took them so long.

The SetupSoon it will be time. And that means everything has to be ready. Anyone can be conscripted into putting chairs out into neat short rows and making sure they're picked free of any stones or other LEGO-like implements. The rows are split in the middle by a red carpet (can't get Magne's Kimono dirty!). Three colors of ribbons—white, pink, and red—need to be made into bows for the backs of chairs. A living archway at the back of the aisle needs to be intertwined with flowers. The Velvet, Ambrosia, and Silk needs to be deep cleaned so that it practically gleams. There's so much to be done, and the happy couple will need everyone's help to finish it. If you've got the time, you can pitch in! After all, everyone's getting getting fed later, and people who help can definitely take home leftovers... Rex can't eat them all.

The Ceremony. Once everyone is seated and the clock reaches the appointed hour, the band begins to play. It's a soft tune, fairly traditional sounding for the occasion, light and floaty. Father Mulcahy, as an officiant of César's, walks down the aisle first and heads to the simple altar. He is followed by César in a tuxedo with golden embroidery at the lapels, followed by the wedding party: Rex, then Max, Lev/Lyubov, Anzu, Drelasa, Ylva, and Mairi, all dressed as they had felt appropriate for the occasion. After all, neither Magne nor César had imposed any kind of dress code on them, just letting them know what the color scheme would generally be and let them play with that as they chose. Amaterasu trots forth as the flower girl, scattering her quickly growing plants and flowers with merely her passing, looking fluffy and majestic and settling right at Mulcahy's side as the second officiant, a favor to the bride.

Then the music changes, growing more dramatic. Its gravitas swelling as Magne herself steps forward in a stunning wedding kimono, with her hair pinned up in pink and white magnolias that her groom-to-be had grown specially for her. Her arm is looped around Touya's, and the two of them fall into step as they take their place on the carpet. It takes all of her restraint not to run straight down the aisle.

Neither the bride nor groom have dry eyes or steady voices when they exchange their vows after a short service. They're about as sappy as everyone would expect them to be.

Magne's boil down to the fact that not only did the village accept her at face value, so did he, and every step of the way he's continued to do exactly that and make her feel beautiful even though she has a really hard time with that. That he always looked to her with love and compassion, never fear.

César's are along the lines that she saw him for who he was from the very beginning and she helped him see the man he was through her eyes. She made him feel like a person, like himself, again instead of just a commercialized product that made work units. And he's very gracious that she tolerates and maybe even enjoys his information dumps. Thank you for listening to him, Magne. She kisses his forehead, murmuring how she loves his infodumps, and they both share a laugh.

The ceremony concludes with the exchange of rings and a deceptively sweet, gentle kiss, though this changes for the humorous as Magne dips César, his arms going quickly around her shoulders automatically. They are reintroduced to everyone as Mr. and Mrs. Salazar Hikiishi.

The ReceptionThe ward on the entrance of the Velvet, Ambrosia, and Silk has been moved to allow their youngest partygoers into the parlor. The baths have likewise been opened to the public. But not everything is open to everyone: the ward that turns The Youth away has been placed in front of the hall that leads to the private rooms. There's a veritable mountain of food, as the only real requirement for attendance had been for people to bring what might have been considered a traditional wedding dish, or else something that they would want to eat, or share with the village at large. Magne and César had insisted that they didn't need gifts, but in the event that they had accumulated any, a table was set back away from the bulk of the party to hold them.

Much larger tables, moved in from around the village, were laden with those offerings of food from everyone in attendance. Magne had thrown open her property so the party can spill out onto the front lawn, around the side garden, and into the back yard lit by glowing lanterns colored with gold and pink paper once night falls. The band had been moved back here to this open air space, and César taught them the opening notes of a song that only the non-natives were likely to recognize. That will happen randomly partway through the night.

Max, as both a professional baker and a very good friend of Magne's, had knocked it out of the proverbial part with the absolutely beautiful wedding cake in multiple natural flavors, heavily favoring vanilla and berries and even floral extracts. The flowers are delicately sculpted in fondant and glittering with crystals of sugar. There is no smashing of the cake in one-another's faces, as César knows better than to even think about ruining Magne's makeup regardless of who had done it. He didn't even need to be warned not to do it.

The rest of the food on offer is an eclectic mix, everything from kosher to vegan, an absolutely massive challah having been brought and put on its own table, to the utter delight of the bride. Speaking of, Magne has removed her kimono in favor of a light, fluttering sort of dress that allows her a good deal more freedom of movement, like a tea gown with half the length shorn off. She dances with anyone and everyone, but always goes back to César's side to breathe, to cool down, to simply dance with him when the songs were slower so they can stare into each other's eyes.

When the band finally retires... well, someone else can grab the stage and put on a show of their own in the parlor. Good luck at karaoke, because there's an OPEN BAR (which Magne and her staff stress is for the adults only). The bride will launch anyone that gets too horrifically drunk out the door.

AfterpartyEventually, the party has to come to an end. Magne and César are lucky enough to be able to retire for the night in the apartment above it, and Rex and Touya live in the house next door. For everyone else of adult age, though...well, if you want to stay a night in one of the empty rooms, you are welcome to it. If you want to spend the night sleeping it off in the parlor, that's also fine, just don't be a jerk to the rest of the hangovers in the room.

Once the public has eventually been cleared out, the business business will be put to rights again. For a few days after the newlyweds will be 'vacationing' elsewhere on the island, but not before César makes sure the flower archway is permanently transplanted into his backyard in sight of the windows of Magne's apartment.

The Bride

Before The Wedding
Like always, Magne can't just sit back and let things happen around her; she's been right there in the middle of everything being set up since the moment it all got underway. She's been moving furniture around, preparing her business for the day, closing down the regular services for the day before to let everyone have time off and have room to work on making everything look perfect. There will be flowers, sheer fabric streamers, places for food to be served and plenty of room for everyone to gather for the party afterward.

With Cesar likewise indisposed, nobody is there to keep Magne's nervous energy in check, unless of course one of the wedding party is helping out.

Preparing The Look (closed, for the bridespeople)
Magne had taken a long bath, scrubbed down and made sure that she was ready for the ceremony later that day. She's got a robe keeping her modest before she needs to layer into her kimono. An array of moisturizers and cosmetics await her on the vanity that her fiancee had made for her.

"Alright, where do you want me?"

The Reception
The kimono and its layers have been shed, leaving Magne in a dress that allows her to dance and easily move place to place both inside and out of her business without needing to worry about the trailing end of her wedding gown. She's positively giddy, and the moment that she's able to locate Drelasa in the crowd, she bustles up close, holding her bouquet tight in front of her and quietly requesting to take her friend aside.

The moment they're alone, Magne will present the bouquet to Drelasa.

"I know wedding traditions are different everywhere, but this one means a lot to me. I want you to be happy, Drela-san. This is my wish to you, and I'll be here for you every step of the way."

After the two of them part ways again, Magne goes to find some food, absolutely famished after being so full of nervous energy that she had forgotten to eat that morning. First stop: that absolutely enormous challah. That's so much bread....just so much.

The Afterparty
Magne has been floating on cloud nine for days, and finally she's starting to settle down, though that is mostly due to how much of the day has been absolutely nonstop. She's been flitting between all of the different little groups that broke off around the building, making sure that everyone has eaten and drunk their fill, doled out dozens of hugs and thanked everyone that showed up at least once, even if it was just for the free food.

As everything quiets down, Magne herself will settle into one of the deep, squishy couches with her bare feet tucked up beside her, a plate of finger foods perched on her knees to pick at as she chats with the partygoers, looking down at the ring on her finger compulsively and occasionally tearing up all over again.

Mulcahy has been scarce for quite some time, and even now he mostly keeps quietly to himself, but he arrives in all his priestly finery and greets them both with warmth; the new couple deserves nothing less from him. To the food, he has contributed several large loaves of rosemary bread. It's nothing fancy, but he has never been a superfluous man.

And to the couple, he offers a gift: a good quality bottle of olive oil, to help break in the habit of cooking together, or for each other.

The Doggess Is Here And She's So Helpful

[personal profile] i_ink_therefore_i_ammy 2025-03-27 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)

Ammy is all over the place. She's almost everywhere, helping with something. It is, after all, her nature. Flowers trail behind her, though only the fitting and well placed ones remain.

She's helping with the food, though mostly by helping bring things that are needed, rather than any actual cooking. Though if a particularly strong flame is needed, or a quick freeze, she's on hand and ready with those techniques in a timeless moment.

But most importantly she's on flowers. Her mere presence makes the floral arrangements more vibrant, blooming and blossoming and brightening. Judicious use of the Hanagami's blessing creates loops and arcs of flowering vines, while a gentle application of Kazugami's Mist makes sure the scent isn't overwhelming.

She's decisive, but still takes the time to tune the colors, painting in different shades where it's desired.

But of course, there's the gifts. Amaterasu's choices were many, but she has chosen only three. This is her being restrained, with one of the few people in town who could be said to be one of hers. If she were to be as extravagant as she wanted, well. Perhaps it's a good thing that she is holding back.

First, a living gift. A miniature magnolia, a bonsai for the counter of the bride's business. Carefully cut and shaped to evoke the rising of the sun, the dawn of their future together. Being of her own creation, it will be strong, surviving well even on its own. Not that she expects that to be necessary, with a druid in the house.

Second, a work of art. This one only exists after the ceremony, made in a timeless moment with the Celestial Brush and a conveniently prepared canvas. Is Pumpkin Hollow capable of wedding photos? Even if it is, Amaterasu has captured the moment in traditional Nippon style, though Cesar is drawn slightly differently, a nod to his own origins.

Lastly, a slightly more specific gift, thanks to Cesar's suggestion. Everything needed for a proper Hinamatsuri display. The altar, the cloth, the dolls. Something to keep in the family for the future, another piece of her culture reclaimed from the distance between worlds. Ammy makes a final little touch, a single pink flower set behind the 'Empress' doll, (which, perhaps, looks a lot like the bride.)

When Magne finally gets to sit down, it isn't long before Rex finds her with purpose. He flops down next to her, his tie already removed and slung somewhere over the food he's taking back to the house next door. Yes, he has yet another plate of food.

"So," Rex starts, trying to sound casual as he grins over to her. "Does this mean I can call you Magnee now?"

It's her nickname from back home, just adapted to the English pronunciation of her name.

Patty hasn't yet met either half of the happy couple, but she saw the flyer and figured helping set up a community event fell under the Bizzyboy's purview, especially if there's going to be food afterwards. Her small size and high agility makes her perfect for hanging up streamers and the flowers for the living archway, and she pitches on in making the ribbon-bows too.

Congratulations to you both!

The enormous challah is Zivia's contribution -- big enough for each wedding guest to have at least a small taste. She explains the tradition from her own background: after the newlyweds have cut the bread and partaken of it, it's considered a segulah (something like a blessing, something like good luck) for guests to partake as well. Especially, though not exclusively, for those wishing for future success in building their own families.

Just a small taste for everyone is hardly enough, though, so in addition to the massive braided loaf there's also two large baskets of rolls made with the same dough. One basket has rolls topped with a sweet honey-streusel crumble, the other with savory onion bits.

Her gift to the couple is a leatherbound book of beautifully handwritten recipes, including one for the challah.

Leon, unsure of the level of formality and elegance expected for the occasion, goes out and gets upsold into a fairly flashy pinstripe suit and white scarf ensemble. He leaves off the hat (and the gun), but otherwise it's as pictured - black pants, jacket, and vest all in matching pinstripes over a white shirt and red tie, with a white scarf and black and white shoes.

Leon shows up early and helps haul around anything that needs to be hauled, providing an extra set of hands wherever needed. He also hands over four packets of brightly colored seeds, with the handwritten note:
Was planning on giving these to you anyway, but now seems like a good time. I don't know if they'll grow in your greenhouse, but it's worth a shot, right?
As well as written instructions on how best to care for each variety and how to prepare them into medicine - and one recipe for herb pie, with the disclaimer that he only half-remembered it as he was writing it down. True enough, some of the ratios seem a little weird and the oven temperature is definitely wrong, but some experimentation should get it there, right?

The Reception

"Hey."

In the interest of trying not to be a huge wallflower for the whole event, Leon figures it's a good idea to go check in on the groom once he's not being mobbed by others looking to congratulate him. He raises a hand in greeting, nodding, looking a little awkward but genuinely pleased to be here, and presses a glass of water into César's hand before clinking his own against it.

(He's noticed that buzz of excited energy carrying him around without touching the refreshments, and while a couple hours of not eating or hydrating enough won't hurt it sure won't help either.)

"To the best things being yet to come," he says, like someone who was definitely rehearsing that in their head the whole walk over here. "How're you holding up?"
nothingbadeverhappensto: (smile)

[personal profile] nothingbadeverhappensto 2025-03-30 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
A warm, amused smile tugs at the corners of Leon's mouth as César rattles all of that off. The excitement and energy are a little contagious.

"Pretty good. It's nice to be topside again - as much fun as I had running around in the caves, I wouldn't have wanted to miss this." He takes a pointed drink of his water, hoping César follows suit. Hydrate or dyedrate, buddy.

"And thanks. Honestly, I just kind of went with the first thing the tailor recommended. Never been a formal wear kind of guy." His first meeting with the president of the United States, he didn't even bother to wear a tie. Given, that was as much a statement as anything else, but still. "You two knocked it out of the park on the looks front, though. Been a long time since I was at a wedding this nice."

Lyubov pauses, and takes a moment to study the layout of the room, the lightsources and the position of the vanity.

"Closer to the window, but not quite in direct sunlight," she finally says. "Unless like, that mirror's backlit?"

[personal profile] nothingbadeverhappensto 2025-04-01 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Leon laughs, short and huffing but genuine and a little bit sheepish. "Yeah. Fell down a hole and lost my sending stone, had to take my time crawling back out. Be sure to watch your step, if or when you go."

César seems pretty capable, but surviving down there for months is a big ask from basically anyone.

"You think so? Guess I'll have to go back there if I'm ever in need of another fancy outfit. Anyway, what've you been up to? Still farming?"

Man he hopes so, otherwise the wedding gift he came up with is gonna be a little unhelpful.
nothingbadeverhappensto: (wide eyed)

[personal profile] nothingbadeverhappensto 2025-04-03 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a moment where Leon just looks blankly at César after that first part, the proverbial gears turning in his head before clicking into place.

"I'm gonna be honest, César. I forgot that was an option." Which is probably a moderately healthy response, at least? Taking the inability to die permanently here for granted seems like a real good way to start having all sorts of problems really fast. Even so, he does feel kind of stupid for forgetting the reason Mortanne brought him here in the first place. He shakes his head.

"Anyway. Farming's a pretty noble cause, as far as those go. What kind of experiments were you thinking of, though?"
nothingbadeverhappensto: (slight smile)

[personal profile] nothingbadeverhappensto 2025-04-05 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah? Kind of like a - what's it called again? A hydroponic farm?"

That does sound pretty handy. Leon never realized how much he took being able to get basically whatever fruits and vegetables he could think of at the grocery store year-round until he wound up here.

"I keep forgetting you're studying magic. I bet that makes farming a lot more interesting." He won't say easier, out of respect for what Fever's told him about magic having its own challenges, but he imagines druidic magic adds a whole different dimension to things.

She's taken aback, but not unpleasantly so.

"Muthsera... I do not know what to say."

There are not enough words in the world to express the feelings she's feeling.

Her hold on the bouquet is steady, almost reverent.

Drelasa will be performing at whatever points were requested of her.

Additionally, she's made a few ornate wall hooks, hand-sculpted and designed to be both elegant and, in the event of a break-in, useful as improvised weapons. They're made of iron, to be most useful to a certain someone...

"I would appreciate that, muthsera. It has been... quite some time, since I have felt so much in such a short span of time."

The thought of a nice breakfast in the company of others is particularly appealing to her.
