skeletonkeay: (pensive)

"Fair point. Wouldn't want to miss your glorious swan song." He laughs, shaking his head.

She's right though. It does hurt a little less. Gerry was unprepared for the level of mundane pain he'd feel at the loss, didn't expect it to be comparable to the other sorts of pain he's felt. The physical pain of a lifetime of scars. The metaphysical pain of existing in a trapped form after death. Emotional pain didn't seem like it could cut that deep. But quietly growing apart from one's first love until the threadbare remains began to snap, then finding him gone before even getting enough time for the regret to set in--- that lingers.

Gerry's pretty sure he heard a statement like that once. ...as if he was just some wonderful dream that I was now waking up from. Yeah, that sounds about right.

He sighs a little. "Yeah. It is. And no good brooding in the shadows about it. Even if it is my nature. I wouldn't be able to do it properly without any--- I dunno, what were the sad sacks listening to back home? Death Cab for Cutie or something?"
