Valdis is glad that Fever is not conscious to hear the agony of what she is leaving behind. Not because she believes it is real, but because it would haunt her even more than it already does.

She continues to run, far from Fever's nightmare and into the nothing between dreams. It's only when she's certain that nothing has followed that she stops and gently puts Fever on the ground, curling around her to wait until she wakes.
