Immortal. That takes a moment to sink in. Immortal, but not a vampire, because her hands are too warm and alive and... did she say divine? Jenny doesn't know if she should be terrified or proud for her brother, but the doubt only lasts for a moment. Proud. Definitely. He taught an immortal to love again... that's like the stuff of legends and fairytales. So, big brother finally got to go out and make the world better like he always wanted after all.
"You know what?" Jenny says after a thoughtful silence. "I'm not surprised. I always knew my brother was a special kind of person. You could be having the worst day, ready to give up on everything, and he'd come along and make you feel like the world can't really be that bad after all if someone like him is here in it. When I thought we lost him, it was like the sun was always a little dimmer in the sky, even on days when there wasn't a cloud overhead. Now it makes sense."
Jenny licks her lips and something in her expression seems to settle, like a sudden understanding has come over her. "Missing him hurts a lot. I hope you won't have to find that out for a long time. But never having known him would be so much worse and we both know it. At least now I know that... Max is where he really belongs. With you."
