The look Alice gives her is one she should know all too well. He's not buying any of that and it was a terrible joke, though he does still smile and laugh a little.

"I know, I know you just want to protect me but sometimes we can't stop things from happening. I mean look where we are, Alice. We're working another civil service job in some after life with magic and monsters and....maybe it's not that unlike back him....minus the lack of internet."

He had a point to this.

"The point is, I need to learn to protect myself. I can't always have you protecting me. And I don't want you sticking your neck out for me."
