She knows he'll be back, but the moment that hearts stops she can't help but take a shuddering breath as she tries to choke back a sob. First one tear and then another drop onto his face and run down his cheek. She gently wipes them away, ready to just sit with him in her arms until whatever magic holds this place in its grip decides to take him from her. She's not sure what she'll do after that, probably wait until she feel his soul reignite and then go find him.
"Oh, Mortanne, please keep him safe until I find him. I don't think I could do this again."
She's still staring down at his still face when his voice reaches her. She looks up, almost unable to think that he would still be here, except that would make sense wouldn't it. Erik had been. Though she never really expected Erik to go anywhere nice like she would for Max.
"I can hear you." She can't tell if it is relief that fills her eyes with tears or sorrow.
"Max."
She almost can't bear shifting her sight over so she can see him. Neil had done this to Jon and he had felt guilty, but she can't imagine he felt this same pain. Maybe he had, but it made no difference to her and her pain. She allows the tears to fall now, running down her face as she tries to find the strength to see him.
