When she mentions it, the vision of the entity is clear in Jon's mind, as though he's truly seen it. In that very moment, it's hard to say how much of Calvin was truly left in that boy, and whether one could argue that he'd been briefly overwritten - or that what he was, a cruel impulse already within him, was pushed to extremes.

Jon isn't really sure which of the two would be worse.
