Jon falters, pulling a tight frown. He was hoping he wouldn't need to get into it, but at the end of the day, it's pretty unavoidable. Martin hasn't adjusted to the "death of the week" happenings yet. Or, perhaps, maybe Jon's just gotten entirely too desensitized to it. It's hard to say.
"I've been... hunting, Martin," Jon finally relents, folding his arms over his lap. "I let my hunger get the best of me, and I've been waiting until the evenings, prowling around, and taking statements from people. It started out accidental, but, as much as I'd like to tell you that it continued to be that way..."
Well, he'd be lying. But he doesn't need to say as much.
"I took one from someone who had connections elsewhere on the island. Another monster. I was--- incapacitated, so that I wouldn't lash out or try to escape these consequences, and could be given an understanding of my choices, as well as the simple reality of how villages such as these treat monsters that prey upon them, and that someday, I will be... properly able to be contained and killed, for the safety of these people. Something I should have been aware of from the start; this isn't London, I see the people I've preyed upon weekly, sometimes daily. These aren't strangers who can vanish into crowds so easily."
He takes in and lets out a shaky breath. It's difficult to think back on.
"When all was said and done, and I was made to truly understand the scale of what I'd wrapped myself up in, including some genuine intentions to mend this before it reaches something far beyond fixing, I... I was presented with the option to recover quickly but painfully via magic, or take the longer-yet-easier route. I chose the latter."
