Maxwell is initially excited when he hears the words "magic show," but he's a little caught off-guard when he's told it's specifically for sleight of hand. Surely, he thinks, no one's really going to appreciate some simple card tricks when someone has real magic at their disposal. But then again, he's never been one to turn away a chance at the limelight.
Being new in town, Maxwell doesn't have much in the way of a magician's kit, but between borrowing and scrounging, he's able to get enough things together to show off his basic repertoire.
The Variety Show- Part 2
Ah, now, this is where he flourishes, in displays of mysterious dark magics to shock and amaze. His prowess at shadow conjuration is on full display as he makes his duelists dance around one another with swords drawn, builds a marble garden out of the ambient umbra, and summons a swarm of tenebrous butterflies that momentarily muffle the daylight. He can feel the pride welling up within him, even as he tries to crush down the imagined sensation of Claunthe breaking his kneecaps.
The Cucumber Growing Competition
He's being awfully sour about this one, looking at each bit of veg with disbelief, as if to say "why do you even bother?" Perhaps anyone who knows him might call him out on the fact that he's clearly just jealous he didn't arrive in time to grow his own giant cucumbers.
