Ava feels in a complete daze that a moment later she's sitting and she barely registers that Valdis led her there.

She steadies her breathing. "Yes, I know... I..." she blinks back overwhelmed tears. Because she's not ready for him to have to continue suffering in her place when he's just finally gotten a break.
