i can feel them watching me while i'm learning to survive
Who: John Rambo (
theydrewfirstblood) & YOU
What: John Rambo attempts to fill his prescription for Social Contact
When: duration of December
Where: Lots Of Places (referenced below or choose your own adventure)
Warning(s): Likely at all times with John: PTSD, flashbacks, mild self harmful thoughts or behavior, graphic violence, depression, anxiety, and very mild disordered eating habits. These are blanket warnings because Rambo gonna Rambo, but will warn for specifics in threads.
Oak & Iron
After his conversation with Chris, John...decides to take it seriously. The whole 'doctor's orders' part.
...and weirdly? It helps.
Mostly in that John is a more regular face to be seen in the Oak & Iron. He never eats, but now that he has a place in town it's a non-issue. Still, it's familiar, so he makes a concerted effort to spend time in the inn's dining room during at least one meal time a day just for that reason: to be around people. To socialize--there's a couple waitresses who always say hi.
So, breakfast lunch or dinner, John can be found in the dining area. Not eating, not drinking--sometimes writing or drawing, other times he occasionally can be found sewing. Just mending his own clothes, occasionally, but eventually there might be a sighting of an embroidery hoop.
It takes focus. It tires out his eyes. Makes sleeping easier--shut up.
River's Forge
Once John finds work, he's a frequent sight around the forge--whether to see River specifically (normally) or to attempt to socialize (she did say that's what the forge is to her).
If he's very lucky, she might even show him a thing or two, and if he learns anything? He's gonna be a meticulous student and refine his skills until something or someone makes him leave, reminds him to go eat, or brings him something more interesting to divert his attention.
Woods
John's needs are few and far between--but one thing's certain: he's just not capable of settling. That creeping wariness, the uncertainty of his own presence...
...and trying to be social is fucking exhausting.
However, the forest is feeling slightly less threatening each day. Now, knowing he could run into Sam at any given moment is comforting rather than frightening, and sometimes he just plain seeks the guy out to work on his place for a while. Talk, don't talk--his own discomfort around other people is kind of soothing when John's had his fill of others because he doesn't have to be social.
If he's not looking for low stakes company, he's trying to hunt. He doesn't really need the food, but occasionally supplementing his grocery budget with fresh game makes him feel...
Not settled. Not really. But it's something close--and anyone that knows John may, at any given time, find a gift on their front step of rabbit cut for stew meat, or if he gets really lucky, a couple of venison steaks.
Wild Card
